Sunshine is mine

I love love love the name Ava! I am now 26 years old and have loved it since I was a little girl. I always wanted to name a daughter Ava Catherine. You could imagine my horror when it jumped so high on the list! Would you still use a name that you always loved if it was really popular?

Also if you maybe could give me some substitute for the name Ava that are not so popular, actually far from popular?

other names I love to give you an idea: Juliet, Audrey, Rosalie, Lila, Catherine, Elisabeth, Evangeline. I like traditional but not too old ladyish. TIA!

If you love it, use it! I named my dd Mia before it got so popular and now that it is so popular I still love the name.

if popularity really doesn't bug you there's no reason not to use it! i personally wouldn't, but i have a tough time knowing there could be 5 others in the class with the same name. before we knew we were having a boy we strongly considered ava and then i looked up the ssa list. and then i started hearing ava everywhere. but again, if it doesn't bother you, you should really use it since you've loved it for so long. i do love juliet and lila from your list, too. do you like mia (popular but not nearly as bad), maya, laila, leah, aubrey?

I'm personally not a huge fan of popular names, BUT if that's the name you love, use it!  It my LOs name happened to be super popular I would still have chosen it.  I love the name Ava!  In fact one of my good friend's is naming her daughter that in a few months.  Ava Catherine sounds cute!  If you want other options, what about Avalyn/Evalyn/Evelyn?

I love Ava, but its popularity is a turn-off for me.

But it's your kid. You have to decide if it's too popular for you. Or, on the flipside, if you love the name so much that you'd regret not using it.

I was a lit like you, and you can see we went with Claire. Also on our list were Ariane, Audrey, Anna, Avery, Nina. Claire's MN is Elizabeth.

I LOVE the name & even though it's high on the list I feel there are more Emma's, Ella's & Mia's than Ava's!

It's so lovely to say & my little girl fits it nicely....the name just makes me smile! USE IT!

Use it! If Ava is the daughter that you've envisioned having ever since you were young, then you go right ahead and finally meet your little Ava

I really like the name Ada, just Ava with a d. Its in the 500s so not as popular but still really pretty.

 But if you really like Ava, I say go for it!

I agree with the poster above me that Ada is lovely.

Ava is a gorgeous name. However, I have always loved having an unusual name, and have also been tortured by my husband's super common name and how, even as adults, I still have to refer to him as Mike Lastname or people won't be sure who I'm talking about. So top 10 names are out for me, no matter how beautiful.

It's really a personal decision for you as to whether having her be Ava Lastname will bother you.

I don't have a problem with using a popular name, I have a much bigger problem with using trendy names. Ava is a beautiful name that ages well.  In 40 years she won't be embarrassed to tell people her name is Ava..unlike, I suspect, the little  Paytyn's or Neveah's running around.  Their names are a passing trend, like Debbie's and Linda's in the 70's, not a classic like Ava.  If you love it use it. 

On the other hand, if her being Ava C. or Ava G.  her entire life bothers you then I would pick something close but different.

 

What about Evangeline nn Eva. Eva is really close but just different enough!

I like the name Ava but I like it just a little less because of its popularity.
