Donating Breastmilk?

I have about 40oz frozen that I can no longer use. We found out DS is allergic to cows milk and all of that milk was pumped from when I was heavily consuming dairy. It is nowhere near expired so my question is where could I donate it? I dont want to just let it go to waste and would love for someone else to be able to use it.

  • Maybe contact LLL to see if they would know where you can donate it locally.  Maybe even contact the hospital you delivered at and see if they would accept it for NICU babies.

  • In the NICU, my twins received donor breastmilk for about the first day until I was producing enough of my own colostrum and milk for them.  Apparently there is a milk bank that mothers can donate to.  You have to have a blood test to be screened for disease and your milk has to be tested for bacteria.  The milk is pasteurized.  I'm not sure if they accept frozen though.  You may try googling "milk bank" in your area.
  • Look for the human milk for human babies facebook page.  I donated twice through there over 400 oz.  It has been a really cool experience.

That's what I was going to suggest.

Legit milk donation asks for at least 100 oz per donation (I think?) and requires a lot of screening.
