And on to formula #5...

My poor baby just can't win. He was on 3 different formulas before we found out he had a milk protein sensitivity. So on to soy. And in the last 2 weeks, he's been throwing up progressively more and more at each feeding, along with writhing around and crying until he does throw up, and being constipated and having super hard poop. When he actually threw up his ENTIRE bottle last night, I weighed him, and he had lost a pound. So after a very rushed call to the tele-nurse, we went out and picked up alimentum at 2am. He hasn't thrown up at all. Though I think  I might every time I make him a bottle. It's gross.

And question...He gets about an ounce of breast milk a day. Should I still cut out all dairy and soy, or do you think it's alright? I love my cheese!

Re: And on to formula #5...

  • Have you tried Nutramigen yet? With my dd that was the only formula that worked for her and she had a milk protein allergy. Thank God she grew out of it and can drink regular milk now.

I believe the Nutramigen and the kind Heather is using are basically the same thing. Nutramigen is Enfamil and the Alimentum is Similac.

Heather, I mentioned it to you before, and I know you're tired of switching, but Baby's Only Lactose-Free is what changed our life. We have to order it online by the case, but it's only about $14 a can and it smells GOOD!

Either way, good luck to you and Patrick. I hope his tummy issues are behind him.

  • If he is allergic to dairy or soy, then yes, your breastmilk is probably affecting him.  Linus was fine on soy, but if I had any dairy in my breastmilk then he would still be in pain. He could very easily have a soy allergy as well though... I think it's a 50/50 chance that they are allergic to milk and soy. If he was throwing up on soy alone though and not on the alimentum then it sounds like MPSI. The stuff was NASTY though so I'm sorry. :( (and expensive!!!) I would absolutely not still give him even an ounce of bm with soy or dairy in it though if you have strong suspicion of allergy/intolerance. I cut out all dairy out of my diet (and you would be AMAZED how soy and dairy is in EVERYTHING) just to give him his 2 oz of BM a day and finally realized it wasn't worth it.

  • Thanks, ladies! He's doing so much better. I love that I'm still wearing the same top I put on this morning.

I guess I'll stop giving BM. I can't give up cheese. Sad, but true.

  • I'm a little surprised that if you knew he has a milk sensitivity you are still BFing and eating dairy. All the formulas you have tried might mean nothing because you still have been giving BM with dairy in it.

GL to you on this new formula though!

I was eating soy-cheese. Not as good, but it worked. Now, not so much.

ETA: I don't know why I put dairy in my original post. I have a milk protein sensitivity myself, so I hardly ever use dairy. All soy products here.

  • Ok, that makes more sense then. I was sitting here thinking "DUH!"

My DD1 had and still has a milk sensitivity, but not a dairy sensitivity - its strange - but hopefully she'll grow out of it.

We were on the Nutramigen for a while with her and it was horrible. It smelled and stained something crazy. Hopefully you won't have to stain on it long term.

  • I'm no help with your question, but I have a question about the stuffed glowing animal that was in your previous siggy. Where did you get it from and what exactly is the name of it? It looks really cute. Thanks.

It's the Fisher-Price Glowing Seahorse. I think it came from wal-mart. My dad got it for him.
