February 2012 Moms

just curious..how early did you find out the sex??

I am just curious how early are you able to find out the sex of your LO. This is my first pregnancy and I am a planner by nature so I would like to be as prepared as one could be. Waiting to find out is so hard but at this point I do not have any other options but to wait. I am trying to wait to register and make my own personal purchases till I know what I am having. TIA

  • Usually not until 18-20weeks but my OB told me that I can do a 3d/4d at 15/16 weeks and see...but the 2d is usually shown at 18-20weeks

  • The longer you wait, the more accurate it will be. I have seen people get "guesses" at 13-14 weeks and be wrong. I personally think I will try to hold my curiosity (and my wallet), and not get an elective ultrasound early, and just wait until the scan at 18-20 weeks, so I can feel confidant in what the doctor tells me.
  • Last time it was 20 weeks on the dot. They would not let me go any earlier. This time it is 18 weeks and like 4 days. I tried to do it right at 18 and the place suggested, I wait a little longer. I guess 4 days makes a huge difference?!?!? Some people find out around 16 weeks but the machines are probably a little more advanced. You can register for needed items, just get them in neutral colors. Playmats, swings, bath tub, tub toys, soaps and lotions. There is a ton of stuff that you can register for!

  • My U/S is in about 6 weeks which will put me at 18 weeks. My OB said that we will probably be able to find out the gender unless the baby is not in the right position.
  • I'm going to a 3d-4d place on Friday (yay!!) to find out! I will be 15w1d. The only reason I'm doing it and not waiting is b/c my parents will be in town and I thought it'd be fun for them. The place said lots of people come in then. I"m still not going to buy anything until I hear a "certainty".

  • I'm getting one right at 14 weeks because it will be my birthday.  I know it may not be accurate, but I thought it would be the best present in the world to at least see my LO.  Finding out the gender will be a plus!

  • I'm going for an elective one to determine sex at 16 weeks 1 day.  The place I'm going to claims 100% accuracy for the past 25 years. I have my anatomy scan at 19 weeks 6 days, where the elective one will hopefully be confirmed. One cool thing about the elective one is that our 9 year old daughter can come with me and see what kind of baby sibling she's going to have.  She's really excited about that. Also, I'll get 10 B&W shots and a DVD, so I think it will be fun.  One of my coworkers went to the same place and recommended it highly. Definitely worth the $65 to me!

  • We will find out at 14w5d through the 4d ultrasound. They have a guarantee if they are wrong we get the entire fee back! Last time they were right so there's nothing that we wont' trust with them. We do get it confirmed again at 20 weeks ultrasound.

  • My OB has a scheduled ultrasound for us at 18 weeks, but I can barely contain myself. As a first time mommy, I can't wait! Soooo...hubs and I are going to a local place that does ultrasounds as early as 14 weeks. Like another bumper posted, they refund our money if its inaccurate, and they guarantee a return visit if the gender isn't determinable yet.

I realize its not 100% accurate, but I'm thrilled nonetheless. 2 weeks from today!!! Also, this is going to be our first ultrasound so either way I am thrilled to be able to see the baby and have it on DVD.

  • Well if you get your NT scan at 12 weeks or after you go use the "nub" (not a between the legs shot). For that I think 18 weeks and after are best.  I found a place that does it at 15 weeks in Las Vegas I am will happen to be there for my husbands work when I am 15 weeks and 3 days so, I made an appointment I will keep you posted and let you know how it goes.

  • With DD#1 she wouldn't cooperate for the 20 week u/s so we ended up finding out about 23 or 24 weeks. I had a brief scan on Friday at my 14 week appointment (14w1d) and Little Bit was facing right toward the "camera" with legs up and apart - and there was a big "butterfly" looking us right in the face. We have a gender scan to confirm on the 26th, but I've been convinced since day 1 that this LO is a girl, and the scan Friday confirms it. I know it's early, but it was VERY obvious that there was nothing there to say boy and everything screamed girl.

I'm thrilled, of course, I'm going to have two little girls (around 14 months apart) and they can pass clothes down! I hope they'll be super close Smile
