sleep training question

How long do you let lol cry before going in? When you go in do you just shush pat, or pick them up? I'm armed with a bottle of wine, I'm doing this :/

Re: sleep training question

  • I'd suggest you read up on different methods before starting and consider which one will work best for your LO. That said, we did extinction, which is simple -- you don't go in. You put them down for the night, and that's it. It sounds crazy, but it really works, and since it's faster, I think it's kinder to you AND baby. GL with whatever you decide!

  • I read up on them a little bit, but I had no idea of spacing. I had already decided to go in around midnight and 4 for his feedings, and he only woke up once between those feedings and cried for 5 minutes. I wish it were that easy every night.

It may be that easy.  When we did Ferber at 7 months, I decided that the first night I would go in at 3, 5, and then 7 minute intervals; the second night, I was going to do 4, 6, and 8 minute intervals.  I also decided that I would feed her if she cried up to the first interval if it had been four hours since her last feeding.  The first night, I fed her once.  The second night (and since), she has never cried long enough in the middle of the night to warrant a feeding (so she's never cried for more than 4 minutes).  Since it's been so long, I'm not going to feed her in the middle of the night anymore.

We did this too.  Simple and quick.

I didn't think about letting him cry a little; I just went right in to feed him. Maybe I'll try it tonight and let him cry for a few minutes before going in.
