Girl Name

Ok, so I posted this on the "Baby Names" board a little while ago but haven't gotten too much feedback and plus I like this board a million times better!  You ladies rock!

Anyways, if baby is a girl we have decided on the name Elle but haven't come up with a middle name yet.  This is what we have...

Elle Audrey

Elle Ivory

Elle Margaret

Thoughts?

First of all, I love Elle, so pretty!

Out of the middle names you have listed I would choose Elle Margaret.  I don't love the flow of any of them but I think that Elle is a really hard name to flow with.  Do any of the names have significant meaning to you guys?

I know exactly what you mean about the flow... it's a hard name to come up with something to sound good!

Audrey and Ivory are just two names that we though sounded good (Audrey is my favorite and Ivory is my DH's favorite).  Margaret was actually my mom's grandma, and my mom has mentioned before that she always wanted to name one of her 3 girls Margaret but my dad didn't like it.  My DH and I liked Margaret until we were talking with my DH's Great Aunt who mentioned that we should name the baby Gana Margaret.... after her.  And then, we though we didn't want people (or especially his Great Aunt since she has kind of an ego) to think we were using Margaret after her.

  • I'd choose Margaret as well...the other two are beautiful names but difficult to pronounce when coupled with Elle.

  • I tend to agree with the other posters that Elle Margaret has the best flow... even though Audrey is one of my favorite names. :) I think part of it may be that Audrey and Ivory both begin with vowels, same as Elle. Not sure... but I think that might be it. So perhaps (if you're not completely satisfied with the flow of the first two and aren't sold on the name Margaret) looking for middle names beginning with a consonant might help.

That said... I think all three are beautiful choices and since middle names are rarely used I don't think the flow is terribly important unless it sounds ridiculous. ;) I think your daughter will love whichever one you choose to use!

    It's a boy! Born 42 weeks, 2 days.

  • Thanks for the suggestions everyone!  It helps to hear other opinions!  I'm not sure where we will go with it yet... luckily we still have time to decide all that!

  • I love Margaret with it, too. Perhaps there is another version of Margaret (kind of like choicesmom listed) that would have the same feel?

  • I looked at some names with the same meaning as Margaret, which is Pearl-there are a lot of choices! Some of them are really close to Margaret, as well. You can search under baby names by name meaning. Here are a few that I thought sounded good with Elle:
    Gretchen
    Megan
    Maisie
    Marjorie
    Metta

    Sorry, I love baby names!

  • Elle is a beautiful and ever lasting name. :) Personally, unless a name had any significance, I would skip the middle name altogether. Elle can hold it's own quite well. You don't *have* to have a middle name, I know plenty of people that don't have one at all (including myself, my mom, my grandmother, and oodles of people I've met along the way). If Margaret is ia family name, I would go with that one.
