Insurance- Sweet!

I just called my insurance.

For all my prenatal care, I only have to pay a one-time co-pay of $40 and all u/s are covered as long as the doctor gets it authorized with them.

My obgyn told me that most insurances cover 80-90% of the delivery costs (which will be around $4000). I was expecting to be spending between $650-800 to start.

My insurance said I only have to pay $250, sweet! And circumcision is covered if it's a boy (which I think it is). I would have to pay another $250 if the baby has to be in the NICU and stay in the hospital after me, but that's still not bad. I am really happy with this!

Looks like having a baby won't cost me nearly as much as I was afraid of- except for the daycare!

Re: Insurance- Sweet!

  • I had to pay a $10 copay for my very first visit with the prenatal nurse, but not a penny since then.

  • That's amazing!  What kind of insurance do you ladies have?  I'm jealous.

  • I've got great insurance too!

My entire pregnancy and delivery with DD cost $15 (one time co-pay at first appt).  This LO will cost $20 (my co-pay has gone up).

    U/Ss, NT Scan, NICU, C-section, circumcision...it doesn't matter...you name it, it's covered!  Woohooo!

  • Mine is ok, but not nearly that nice!  I have no copays but I have to pay $35 for every u/s and $85 for any blood screens.  As for the delivery, it's $150 plus my deductible ($500).  While I'm not happy about all the little bills - $35 here, $85 there, etc- it's not as much as I thought!

  • comparatively my insurance is awful! I don't know exactly how much, but I just paid 123 for first appt (appt, u/s, blood work etc.) plus my co-pay. I'm expecting to put a couple thousand into this.... this is why I never understand why people insist that gov't employees have great insurance. maybe in some states, but definitely not here!!

WTF?!  That's amazing!  You don't even have a deductible for the hospital?

I'll be paying $600 for family deductible, then everything's covered 100%...not bad!

  • I too have awesome insurance.  I only have to pay a one time $10 co-pay for all of my doctor's appointments (specialists and ultrasounds included).  And then for labor and delivery I only have to pay a one time $100 copay for myself and a one time $100 copay for the baby. So when all is said and done, I should only have to pay $210.  But, if there are a couple more $10 expenses here and there, I am okay with it!  :-)  I know I am very fortunate!  Good to hear other people also have good benefits!  Best of luck to you ladies!
