Ready for my hospital bag...need help..

Hi ladies

I want to start working on my hospital bag this weekend. I remember reading a few weeks about what to put in the hosp bag, but I can't find the post.

So what are you packing for DH, baby and yourself & how much of each item?

TIA :)

Re: Ready for my hospital bag...need help..

  • I googled "Pregnancy Packing List for Hospital" and got lots of ideas!  It's a good place to start.  There were a few things that I added myself, for example:

-I love Cottonel Wipes (and figured it would be more comfortable after birth) so I added those.

-Im also bringing my Boppy Pillow so I can practice BF with it.

-My own lanolin for after BF

    -My own pads/pantyliners

As far as how many outfits, I've decided:

-3 outfits for baby (including hats, mittens and socks, blankets).

-3 different types of comfy clothes for me (gown, pants, who knows what will be most comfortable at the time?)

Everyone's different, so just try to think about what will make YOU most comfortable.  Some people may think I'm crazy for bringing 3 outfits, others will bring 10! My friend made fun of me for packing a small makeup bag, but by day 2 or 3 I figure I might want some mascara!  Do what makes you happy :)

  • I packed one bag for DH and I and the diaper bag for LO (which includes a bib, a couple of outfits, a regular blanket, a receiving blanket, a few other things).  DH has two outfits and his toiletries.  I packed two nightgowns, a robe, a shirt and pants and shorts (depending on the weather outside) for when I go home.  I am also taking nursing bras, nursing tanks and my toiletries.  We are also taking our video camera, our regular camera, the boppy pillow, pillows for DH and I, chargers for cameras and our phones, and probably a blanket for him as well.  I feel like I'm forgetting a few items, but that is most of it.  =0)

  • My big things to make sure I don't forget are flip flops (for showering and walking around), bathrobe (incase I get cold), camera, videocamera, and chargers, pacifiers (our hosptial does not provide them) and my own pillows (most hopsital pillows are really flata and I sleep better with my own).

Others were just basic things I pack when I go away--pj's, tolietries, yoga pants, and a coming home outfit for LO.  Our house is less than a mile away from the hosptial so I think DH will be sleeping at home so if I need something he can grab it for me

  • I would keep it pretty light. There is so much going on that you won't be needing that much stuff. I also just spent 2 days in the hospital this week so I have a few items that I was SUPER glad I had with me. (No outside baby yet, but I brought my bag with me in case!)

-Sweatshirt and socks (it can get cold in the room)

-Comfy BLACK pants to wear home

-underwear and pads just in case I don't like the mesh ones they give you

-toiletries. (My hospital had these provided, but I need conditioner!)

-Snacks to have in between meals.

-Something warm for DH. Mine got cold sitting in the hospital with me

    -cell phone charger

    -camera with batteries/charger

-Diaper bag to fill with goodies that come home with the baby (plus one going home outfit and a soothie pacifier for the ride home!)

I think that's it. Remember, unless you live really far away, you can always have family or DH bring you something in!

  • This is my 3rd time around. :) I'll be bringing:

    MY BAG:

-2 comfy cotton dresses (cheapies from Target) to wear in the hospital and one to wear home

    -2 nursing bras

    -Robe

    -Slippers

-Flip Flops (I'll wear them to the hospital)

-Extra t-shirt and sleep shorts for DH (he doesn't spend the night, but if baby is born super late at night, he might)

    -Shampoo, conditioner, soap, face soap

    -Makeup bag

-Hairdryer and brush (I swear, the best feeling is drying your hair and feeling "normal" again after the birth, before visitors arrive!), hair ties, headband

-Camera, cell phone, laptop and all chargers

    OTHER:

-Gift & card for DH and small gifts for my 1st two kids

    -Boppy pillow and regular pillow

    -Bag of snacks

    BABY:

-Diaper bag with going home outfit and blanket, as well as nursing pads and cream in case I don't like the ones at the hospital.

(Typically, I enter the hospital with just my bag, my pillow and the bag of snacks. Everything else stays in the car until I need it, otherwise I feel like I look like I'm moving in. LOL!)

  • here's a blog link for a very thorough list: https://www.becoming-mom.net/2008/07/08/the-ultimate-hospital-bag-list/

Mine with DS was pretty basic--I used whatever they provided at the hospital as far as mesh undies, pads, etc so I didn't have to use up my own. This time I'm still doing the same, but I'm adding a couple of random items--I bought some colgate Wisps (2 packs) that I got a good deal on a couple of weeks ago--I thought they'd come in handy while in labor if I want to feel somewhat "human" (I'm super anal about brushing my teeth normally), or just to freshen up before visitors. I'm also making a rice-filled sock (I plan to go meds-free again, so it'll be good for pain mgmt) and hopefully I'll have access to a microwave to heat it up.

  • Here is what the bump suggests. https://pregnant.thebump.com/pregnancy/pregnancy-tools/articles/checklist-packing-a-hospital-bag.aspx

I usually pack a pair of slippers, a going home out fit for me and baby, blanket for baby, nursing bras, underwear, hairbrush, toothbrush and toiletries. I also pack several snacks. I always pack light and use their gowns.
