Board Games for 2-3 year olds

I want to get a few games to try playing with DS1 who is 2 1/2. What games have you found to be good for this age group? I was thinking an early Memory game might be good, but I wanted to hear from experience what your LO has enjoyed, and can follow along with well. Thanks!

  • Memory is a great one!

  • DS plays memory. Only we have to either have the pictures flipped up and we make matches that way, or cut down the number of pairs we use.

We also play Jenga. A block stacking game.

And we also have Don't break the ice - though this game usually ends up in some form of time out.  Tongue Tied

  • DD is close to 3, but we have several games.

We play Chutes and Ladders, Candyland and Hi Ho Cherry O.

She loves to play all of them!

  • DD likes memory games but loves Candyland

  • I have a just-about-to-be-two year old and I haven't found many games for him.  Being the craft geek that I am, I made him a memory game with friends and family member's faces so he can learn names easier.  I would think that Hi Hi Cherryo and Elifun would be great.  Dominos might be fun to start learning numbers too.
  • We have a bunch of games for DS, who is 3+, but he still doesn't want to play any of them the correct way. He prefers to make up his own games. He loves the UNO Moo barn, but he just sorts the colors and animals and sings Old McDonald. He also enjoys sorting the fruits in the Hi Ho Cherry-O game. If your child is like mine, try a peg board or colored tile game...there are plenty on Amazon.

  • My DD is 3 and she loves to play games. She loves Ants in the Pants, Elefun, Bed of Monkeys (I don't know if that is the exact name), Memory Game (we cut down the number or play face up), and Don't Break the Ice (however she really likes to break the ice).  I also bought a poster from the Dollar Store and use a few bean bags from her bean bag game and we play a game that I made up that seems to be one of her favorites right now. We play 1 of 2 ways. She either trys to throw the bean bag on a certain letter or she tosses it up in the air and has to tell me what letter it landed on and what the corresponding picture is of. She is doing so well that I'm thinking of getting one for her numbers as well.
  • DD plays Hungry Hungry Hippos at the sitter's, and just this morning told me that "we need go to store and buy that game!"

I'm thinking 3rd bday present. Besides, I always liked that game too. Smile
  • I agree with most of the games the PPs have said but wanted to add Brown Bear Panda Bear.  I got it at Target and its obviously based on the Eric Carle books of the same names.  Its like memory, but the cards go in the middle of the board and in front of each person are the pictures from the books (2 brown bear animals and 2 panda bear animals).  You have to turn the cards over to match the animals you need and you win when you find all your animals.  I hope I'm explaining it right.  Its very cute!
  • We recently played "Old Macdonald - pop and match game" and my 3 yr old loved it!

  • DS is obsessed with "The Very Hungry Caterpillar Game" and "The Very Grouchy Ladybug Game". Teaches counting and one to one correspondance (plus they're fun!)
