Breastfeeding

Should I have daycare give ds more bm per bottle?

Were doing an ounce per hour since the last time he ate so far, he's only been there for 2.5 days so far. Hes 8 weeks old. I don't want to stretch his tummy but I'd he eats more there will he be likely to eat less when he gets home? Last 2 nights he was nursing pretty much non stop. I wouldn't mind if it didnt hurt and I didn't have a 4 yr old that needed me too. Maybe this will pass and he's just getting used to new routine? Advice please.

  • I wouldn't increase his feedings at this point. In my experience, day cares often have troubles with overfeeding breastfed babies, so you may not want to push increasing this feedings at this time, as it may happen on its own later on.

My LO wanted to spend a lot of time snuggling/nursing the first couple weeks he started daycare. I think he was just adjusting to the routine and needed to recharge after being separated from me for the first time. I think this is more for comfort rather than due to hunger.

I'd wait it out a couple weeks before making any changes...

I agree! My lo usually has a 45 minute nursing session when we get home, regardless of when she last ate just because she wants her bonding time. It helps my supply and is a stress-reliever for me,so I let it go. This time will pass quickly! See how she does after this first week and then make adjustments. Be prepared for it to change week to week for a while.
  • Most likely he is just getting used to a new routine. DS was like that when I went back to work. Now my supply has regulated in the evenings again and all is well.
