Week 28 rib pain

Hi Ladies,

I'm at week 28 and i have such a soreness in my upper right ribs near where the bra line meets my bump. This is my first pregnancy and I have a relatively short torso so I'm ALL baby.

Has anyone else had pain in this area? It's not too bad when i get out of bed in the morning but then when I sit at my desk at work it gradually gets worse and by the end of the day I just want to go home and lay down.

Any suggestions?

thanks!

Re: Week 28 rib pain

  • Do you have any back pain on that side too? If so, you might want to ask the doc about looking into gallbladder or kidney issues. I had the same thing, not a sharp pain but a dull uncomfortableness (is that a word?) and they checked me for both and found "water on the kidney" which is common and not anything to worry about. The ache hasn't gone away but i've learned to get through the work day by taking some short walks away from my desk later in the day. HTH!

  • No, nothing around my back just really in the front but yes certainly a dull uncomfortableness (if that's a word!)

My next appt is next tuesday so I'm hoping the dr will be able to offer some suggestions for how to relieve some of the soreness. It's way too early to go out on leave from work if there's no emergency!

    Thanks for your reply!

  • Yes!  I've had this for months now.  It only happens when I'm sitting in a straight chair (rather than a couch or comfy arm chair) & feels like pinching in my upper rib cage.  The only thing that brings temporary relief, is to arch my back & lean back in my chair.  I've asked around & other moms have said they experienced it too.
  • I asked my doc and she said it could the uterus pushing against the diaphragm or other organs. It will ease up as the baby drops :)

  • My ribs have been going numb now for a good month or so.  Dr said LO is just running out of space and is high up there under my ribs and kicking and moving around.  Dr was not concerned about it at all.  I will say that it is very uncomfortable and a very strange feeling.
  • Very normal.  Get up from your desk frequently to stretch and walk.  My DS was up in my ribs for weeks and so is this LO.  Yes, it is uncomfortable, but nothing is wrong.
