3rd Trimester

Here comes the heartburn...

Thankfully, I have been blessed to make it to 31 weeks without any heartburn.  But low and behold, today...it began!  All while eating pizza (which I have had before and been fine) and all of a sudden I was hoping I was imagining things.  Nope, its the real deal and so I wondered what any other ladies have done to help?  Ever since dinner time I've been craving water and feeling super thirsty, but of course no tums in the house!  Not sure what else would help but any suggestions would be wonderful :)

Re: Here comes the heartburn...

  • drinking milk seems to help temporarily with the burning in my throat. tums never did a thing but it never hurts to try it! other than milk i've just been taking one zantac before bed every night even if it hasn't started yet because otherwise i'll wake up a couple hours later to drink the milk haha.

  • Bananas! :-) They always help me. And milk for a quick fix.

  • I drink lots of milk and send DH for tums if we are out! It is horrible. I have had it since the beginning of 2nd tri. No

  • Zantac about 30 minutes before bedtime plus popping 2 tums is the only thing that has helped me. I can actually lay flat and sleep instead of trying to sleep upright!

  • I actually posted something about this earlier and everyone told me to try Zantac. I bought some today and it's already helped!

  • I have been dealing with serious heartburn since nearly the beginning of the second trimester.  I have tried it all.  My last resort for when I feel like I am dying from it is to drink 1 tsp of baking soda mixed in a glass of water.  It tastes horrible and makes me feel like I am going to throw up, but it does work better than anything else I have tried.

1 tbsp apple cider vinegar  in a cup of water (works well for medium heartburn)

They don't have Zantac in the country I live in, so I am have to figure out other solutions.

  • My heartburn comes and goes (with no rhyme or reason) but I've been sticking to natural remedies.

I either chew DGL tablets or put some apple cider vinegar in water and drink it. It burns at first but really helps in the long run.

You can always try an elimination diet although I'm not sure it will help. Tomatoes are a major no-no for regular heartburn sufferers so you could see if avoiding them helps you.

Also, just eating small meals helps a ton.

    Good luck!

  • Carbonated beverages help sometimes.  Good luck!

  • Crystalized ginger helps too :)
  • Milk was the only thing that helped me the other day.  It was so bad.

  • I've had heartburn since day 1. It's progressing to much though over time though. I have tried EVERYTHING. It comes every night and lately has kept me up feeling like I may puke. I find a glass of milk and two Tums at least let me get to sleep. Even if I wake up with heartburn an hour later lol
