Woman didn't know she was pregnant, gives birth ? now hospital is sued"

  • Wow...but at 46 and overweight, I can understand why she wouldn't know she was pregnant, I would have assumed menopause.
  • Loading the player...
  • What upsets me is that she tested positive for cocaine!!! But, not only did she test positive for cocaine the day that she gave birth to the child but she also couldn't stay clean so they took the child away from her and she apparently lives some where in Nevada.

  • This is the second time I've heard of this happening in the last two weeks. There was a local girl here (Northern Michigan) who went to the ER with a stomach ache and ended up giving birth to a full term baby boy. One of the local radio stations was doing a donation drive for her and everyone caller was totally confused as to how you do not know you are pregnant!

I asked DH if there was any way I could hide this (pointing to my big ole belly) and he claimed there was no way he could answer that and NOT get in trouble =)

  • I think the end of that article says it best. why should the hospital pay for the childs care if the woman didnt have the sense to wonder if she may be pregnant? It isn't their fault. I would assume they would have administered the test next and would have seen she was pregnant. They just hadn't gotten that far yet. I wouldn't automatically assume someone is in labor if they told me they had pain in their stomach and bleeding. I would think along the lines of gastrointestinal issues first...

Just another way to raise the already high costs of healthcare.
