Spelling help/advice--clicky

Re: Spelling help/advice--clicky

  • Miel means honey in Spanish (pronounced mee-EL), so I'd expect a lot of mispronunciations on that one.
  • I voted Miel.

    I too think of honey.

  • Is this supposed to be for a boy or a girl? Honestly, all of the spellings look terrible and I don't know how you should spell it to get the pronunciation you want. Did you make this name up? I really hate it and I think you should find a different name.

  • Myelle will mostly get you the pronunciation you want but expect a lot of peopel to pronounce it the Spanish way or think you are saying "Michell/Mychell".

  • In terms of pronounciation, to me:

    Miel = "meal"

    Mielle = "mee-ell"

    Myelle = "my-ell"

    FWIW, I'm not a fan of any other them.

  • Myelle will give you the pronunciation you are looking for, but I think the name is stupid. I don't feel like putting it into softer terms.

    I was thinking the same thing except sub in "French" for "Spanish."

  • I've never seen/heard this name.  I think no matter how you spell it, it will get screwed up.
  • Myelle is the only one of those that I think would get you the pronunciation you want. "Miel" is already a word, pronounced differently.

    Yep, same here. I don't care for it as a name, but to get the pronunciation you want I'd go with Myelle.

    Agreed. If you were going for the Spanish word for honey, then you need to both pronounce it and spell it correctly. If you weren't going for that at all, then Myelle is the closest to get the pronunciation you want.

  • There's a snowboarder who spells it Maelle, but its technically spelled with the 2 dots over the first e. Its a French name, so they use the 2 dots to show that even though the vowels are in a row, they are in fact pronounced separately.

    I would avoid an umlaut (or whatever the souble dot is called in English) at all costs here in the US. It is most likely going to get dropped on most official documents and even when it does appear, I don't think most people will know how to pronounce it anyway.

  • My first thought would be to pronounce this name the same way that I would read "mile."

    Considering that it might be a name that others might be pretty unfamiliar with, too, I would say that if you're really set on using it, do so as "Miel"; don't dumb it down for a bunch of people who don't particularly care about your affinity for it and will probably get it wrong anyways.

    Thank you for this bit of info: I'd always been curious of those dots!

  • I don't like any of the spellings but I voted for Mielle.

  • Sorry  but I like the name but do think it will be mispronounced a lot no matter how you spell it.  I think the first two with "i" in them I would have pronounce 'meal-lee"
