Food ?: are you giving meat or fish yet (non jarred) ?

She gets veggies, cheese, fruits, grits, all fresh and mashed but nit pureed. Thinking of introducing some meats and fish but not sure where to start.

  • Asher has had ground turkey and shredded chicken. He did very well with both. He LOVES meat.

  • I just started with a little chicken breast that we were eating. I cut it into small pieces, and he did fine with it. Now he's eaten ground beef, turkey (ground & sandwich meat), ham, light breakfast sausage (pork) and even a little bacon (gasp!).  His meals are mostly fruits & veggies, though. I give him a little bread, cheese, pasta, and/or meat, but I try to give him lots of fruits and veggies.
  • I first tried a chicken & vegetable Gerber stage 3 jar & he didn't like it.

I then pureed organic ground chicken thighs & they were a huge fail.

He devours little bits of chicken cutlet & pork chop off my plate, though, so I've been going that route.

I'm not giving fish yet. He has his 8 month appt in about a week, so I'll ask about it then.

I can't believe I haven't thought to do this. I keep ground chix and turkey in our freezer. Do you season them? How do you prep?

He gets is however we are eating it. I made burritos the other night. So he has black beans and ground turkey with garlic, pepper, onion powder, chili powder and cumin. He gobbled it all up and didn't have an upset tummy or anything. Some one suggested it to me when DD was little. I never thought of it myself either. haha!

  • Yes, we've given him meat and fish and he loves all of it.  His favorite though are ribs, I just pull most of the meat off and he eats the rest and gnaws on the bone...it's pretty funny to see.

We started with poached fish, it's soft and they can gum it easily, we've also given him shredded chicken and ground beef.  He eats whatever we're having for dinner.

Our LO eats whatever we're eating, too. I made a chicken tagine last night, and he liked it.

  • We started chicken at 7 months.  We did the chicken with sweet potatoes and apples recipe from wholesomebabyfoods.com, but we used thighs rather than breasts.

  • Do all of your babies have teeth yet? My LO doesn't have any teeth yet so I've been afraid to start any non jar food! I'm so afriad his gums will fail him!!!

    No teeth here yet.

  • One tooth here.

  • Two teeth here, but he doesn't use them for eating at all. He mashes everything where molars will some day be. Babies have very good gag reflexes, so full blown choking while eating is pretty rare. They will likely just gag up something and scare the crap out of you! haha!

  • M choked on a cheerio the other day, so I have been apprehensive. He cut three teeth over the weekend and has been really whiney, but now that he is feeling better maybe we will try some chicken!

  • Where are all your babies, developmentally? Landon just started sitting, so we just moved on to the "Sitter" Gerber foods a few days ago. No puffs yet, since they say "Crawler." Our pedi said we'll start more "solid" solids after the 9 month checkup, but just wondering if your LOs are crawlers that they are eating meat, or if you just incorporated it into their diets.

He he... I am so like you. I follow the rules to a T. :) I really admire all of these brave mamas! The two times I tried to give G regular food (bread, watermelon), she bit off a big chunk and I nearly fainted trying to get it back out of her mouth. She didn't even get a chance to gag! I haven't tried since. LOL.
