keeping bottles clean and fresh ...

Any tips or detergent recs? I feel like it takes an absurd amount of time to scrub all my bottles every night. I am EPing and go through a lot of bottles. I use Dr. Brown's and don't have a sterilizer- I would consider purchasing one, but wouldn't it just be the same thing as using the dishwasher?

  • Just use the dishwasher!!!  They have a plastic thing at Walmart/Target/BRU that you put the nipples and collars in that goes on the top rack that costs a grand total of $4-5...  I can't imagine washing all that stuff by hand day in and day out!!!

  • Rinse the bottles out as soon as you are done using them.  It makes them a lot easier to wash later on if they haven't been sitting with milk drying in them for hours.

  • Use the dishwasher!  I noticed the dishwasher discolored the nipples so I handwashed them and used a microwave sterilizer bag every few days to sterilize them.

This.  Don't they come with the little bristle cleaning thing?  That should help get into those crevices.

  • I wouldn't waste my money on a sterilizer. But you could soak them a bit before cleaning. That would make it a bit easier I'd think.

  • I do have one of those! I still feel like I have to really, really scrub them before they go in the dishwasher. Between the little parts that make up the Dr. Brown's bottles and the dishwasher rack thing, I'm worried about the hot/clean water actually making it inside the little crevises.

  • I do use the little bristle. I use the bristle/bottle brush first, and then sanitize in boiling water second. I am realizing that I already do the things that have been suggested (including rinsing after use and soaking)... but I still feel like it's not enough. Maybe this is more of a mental/germaphobe issue with me than a practical issue. I started to type out how I feel and I sounded a little crazy- but I feel really scared of giving my baby a bottle that isn't clean *enough* and I don't *trust* the dishwasher.

Oh, man. I was not this crazy five months ago. Indifferent
