Why are maternity clothes so ugly!?

Can you rec your maternity clothes brand/store? I have looked at old navy, gap, target, destination maternity and loft. I like some stuff at loft and pea in the pod but of course it is soooo expensive. The stuff at target and old navy just seems so blah and boring. Any suggestions?

  • I hate maternity clothes!  Kohl's has a small maternity section and some of the dept stores are starting to get some too.  I have yet to shop this time around though, so I have no idea what is out there.

  • I got a whole bunch of stuff from the pea in a pod sale store. IT IS AWESOME. I am so please with the quality of the clothes! SO pleased!! Also.. I really love my gap maternity jeans -- These are the best ones I have found so far. Very true to size and comfy. A lot of the tops at pea in a pod sale section are anywhere from 15-30 and after seeing them and trying them on, I would definately recommend them. ALSO -- the tops are longish so when you grow you know they will be plenty long! like I said, I am SO pleased with me -- and the shirts are SO soft.

In the sale section right now they have all the winter stuff so thats pretty much what all I bought!

  • I really hate maternity clothes. i have a really small frame so I usually have to shop in the junior section. Maternity clothes, even xs-petite, are not made for small frame and they all look huge and baggy on me. The shirts are big in the shoulders and bust and the pants look baggy and frumpy. Its hard to find anything that looks flattering on me.

  • I was in Gap Maternity tonight & actually thought their stuff was pretty cute (some of it!) much better than their online selection. I am super picky too with maternity clothes, guessing I'll just look for some regular empire wasted shirts or dresses in a larger size.

  • I have been just buying a larger size fow now in Target regular clothes..... I also checked out Ross' maternity section and there was some cute stuff.... Also thought there was some cute things at Motherhood Maternity.
  • So far I only am only liking the natural waist jeans, linen pants and cords I got from Old Navy and Gap.  Shirts are awful; they are either horizontal strips or solid colors...ahh

  • Motherhood Maternity has cute stuff and Kohls has a collection at their store. I also found some cute stuff at Baby's R Us. I found that wearing a maternity cami with a sweater/cardigan/wrap works well because it fits and it works with the bump. It's also not so "maternal" looking. From what I've been told maternity clothes have come a looooooong way from my parents' time so I'm trying not to complain too much!

  • I love wearing maternity clothes. Ive always had luck on my side when shopping!

As much as I hate Ross, I went there to buy maternity clothes because I knew they had a huge selection that didnt look like "Old Lady" clothes. At our Ross they had really cute jeans/capris for $7.49 and they had rhinestones on the butt pockets, and were low rise with the tummy control panel. I spent around $40 and got a ton of clothes that all look like a young mother would wear (not teenie-bopper like though)

    HTH! Good luck shopping!!

  • Try Motherhood maternity.. I ordered some awesome jeans and a pair of dress pants, and each pair was only $26.99! And they fit awesome! I'm not quite pregnant enough to actually wear them, but I got excited and ordered them early. LOL
  • try zulily.com.  You have to sign up for it but it is soooooooooo cool.  Everyday they have brand new sales.  Small boutiques put up sales on the site for anywhere between 2-10 days and their discounts are sometimes as much as 75% off.   They don't just have maternity clothes. They have nursing tops, breastpumps, monitors, baby clothes, shoes. Anything for women and children and maternity.  Some of the boutiques have great maternity dresses and pants and really cute shirts.

Also if you recommend someone to the site you received 15 bucks towards your next purchase.  You have to check it everyday for their new sales and it takes awhile for them to ship but I'm kind of addicted to it.

I bought an amazing baby monitor from them originally $199 or something for $89.  It just came today.

  • I actually like most of the Gap clothes. Have you looked at the maternity section at Loft? I even found some regular knit dresses there (on sale) that will fit to late 20-weeks/fall.

  • I've been hitting up thrift stores and have found soo much awesome stuff! It offers really unique, cute stuff and sometimes its even brand new. The other day, I got a sweater with the tags still on it marked at $44- I got it for $4. I love it. Check your local thrift stores, Goodwill, and Salvation Army out. :)
