Rp: Recommend educational gift for 18 month old

Hoping to get some more ideas......... 

Have a birthday party coming up for a 18 month old boy.   What educational

toys do you recommend?         Mom say's he has alot of books but if htere is a must have good educational books for his age that would be fine.

Also someone mentioned Melissa and Doug toys, I have never heard of them what  toy do you like ?

Specifics would be great especially with the books, thanks girls

we have melissa & doug knob puzzles and fake food and their stuff is GREAT! you can get it on amazon.com or at least take a look at it. their products are wooden and look beautiful and stand up really well.
