I recently returned to work (the new baby was 9 weeks and is now 11 weeks). Since I've returned my son now seems very frustrated when I try to breastfeed him. He often becomes so frustrated and hungry he cries and becomes very red unable to latch on. My suspicion is that he's gotten use to the bottle, which may be easier to feed from or prehaps when my mlik lets down its not as strong as feeding from the bottle. How might I go about successfully breastfeeding my son again? I am concerned about only pumping- my fear is my milk supply will decrease or fade away all together. I have a Medela automatic pump- two speed thing, which seems to work so far. I don't believe there has been any decrease in milk supply. The other part of my question is would increasing my milk supply make it easier to breastfeed my son? What is the best way to go about doing that? Will more time using the pump at work help increase my supply?
Thank you so much for your time and thoughts.
Re: Back 2 Work: increasing milk? and baby doesn't want to latch anymore...
Your baby is the best way to increase your supply. He offers the suction and compression needed to stimulate the milk. Here is a good read about "let down". There are a lot of things that can affect letdown. https://www.kellymom.com/bf/supply/letdown.html
You will probably want to fix the letdown problem before anything else. If you think he is used to the bottle, maybe give him a tiny bit from the bottle to ease his hunger, then change to the breast to let him at least stimulate your milk flow.
Hope this helps! Good luck!
