XP - Protein and Electrolytes?

I am just about to wrap up the BCP phase of my first IVF cycle.  I am on a non-Bump board where people are discussing increasing their intake of electrolytes (through Gatorade, etc) and protein (meats and supplements) during their cycle. My ER hasn't mentioned anything of the sort.

Do you ladies have any information or advice from your previous experiences about this? Why it would be necessary/recommended and how you put it into action?

Thanks for the advice.

Re: XP - Protein and Electrolytes?

  • My first RE had strict requirements during stimming and the two week prior.  I didn't do bcp or lupron.  It included daily intake of Gatorade and V8 to counter hyperstimuation and daily intake of egg whites (protein for follicle/egg growth).  No caffeine, not even chocolate, no BD.  The nurse said that it could stimulate my ovaries, Huh?.    I attempted to follow it strictly as it was my first ivf.  I had nothing to transfer.

My second and third IVF at different clinics had no rules and I had much better results.  I think the first RE and all his rules created more stress then anything.   I was 39 at the time with an fsh of 16 and didn't stand a chance of hyperstimulation.  Hindsight it just proved to me this RE had no clue how to manage a person of my age or with my diagnosis.

With my second two IVF cycles I did increase protein but I did it by eating almonds. Not because I was told to, but because I thought it couldn't hurt.

  • It's to help prevent OHSS. I dont like gatoraide, sock loaded up on smart water and coconut water. I always produce a lot of follicles/eggs and have gotten OHSS and it's really pretty miserable.
I start drinking it when I start stimming. Good luck!!!
