3rd Trimester

Which would you choose?

We can only afford to do one or the other and I'm torn...

I really want a glider for the baby's room. I think they're so comfortable and it would be nice to have right there in the room. But I also want a rocker/recliner (like a La-z-Boy) for our living room down the hall from teh bedrooms. I think it would be convenient to have something to sit on other than the couch- we spend a lot of time in the living room/kitchen.

So- glider/ottoman for nursery? or rocker/recliner for living room?

Help me decide!

Re: Which would you choose?

  • it depends on where you plan to spend more time...I would guess the living room.

  • We are borrowing a glider for the nursery from my parents rec room.  We also have a rocker recliner in our LR.  I would assume the rocker recliner would get more use in the long run.  Good Luck making the decision.  Or you could always get the glider and purchase the rocker recliner down the road.

My GF bought an old wooden rocker at a thrift store for their nursery.  I think she paid like $25.00 for it.  You could check that out and then get a chair for each room.

     Good Luck!

  • I'd go with the rocker/recliner for the living room.  If you wanted to, you could move it into the baby's room at first, and then move it to the living room as the baby got older.

I'm an FTM, but my friend told me she hardly ever uses her rocker.  She prefers just sitting on the couch.

this is my plan.  we have a recliner and it's in the nursery now.  once we are done with it, we'll move it to the living room!

  • if you have an IKEA anywhere near you, you could get a standard Poang chair for about $60.  they are crazy comfortable and very supportive, and have a little bit of 'bounce' to them.  (not quite a glider/ rocking chair, but pretty close)  my husband had one from before we got married, and that's what we're planning on using for the nursery.  the footstool is an extra $30...  maybe that would help the conundrum?  :-)  Good luck!!
  • I would go for the rocker/recliner in the living room. I have a glider in the babies room and with my first I barely ever used it, I nursed alot in the living room. But if you feel that you are going to be in the babies room alot then go for it.

  • I was going for the bedroom but I love my rocker recliner so much it's in the living room.  It's like it belongs there.  Since my living room is really near LO's room, it doesn't really matter where I put it.

  • I got a hand-me-down glider from a friend and just put a new cushion on it for the baby's room.  For the living room, I bought a little cushioned chair from Ikea to nurse in.  I thought that it might have more support than sinking back into our big sofa.  Check out mom-swap groups (if you have them in your area) or second hand stores.  A little spray paint goes a long way.
  • hmmm....I have the glider/ottoman for the nursery cause that's where we'll be rocking the baby to sleep, most feedings, etc.  I bought a Brest Friend nursing pillow (cause it has back support) to nurse when I'm not in the nursery.

  • DD STTN early on so we hardly ever used the rocking chair in her room. Also, at first we didn't take her to bed till really late so I spent the majority of the day (like 8am to 11pm) in the LR area so I used the glider we have out there the most.

This time around DD#2 will probably spend sometime roomed in with us so I moved the rocking chair to our room and will use it as needed there. If she is like DD#1 though again it will not get a ton of use.

Before I had my daughter, I would have said the glider but, now that I have some experience, I would say the chair for the living room.  (Worse case scenerio, you could always put it in your LO's room temporarily.)

  • I am not at all the living room recliner type of person. I would choose the nursery glider.

  • We are getting an upholstered glider and ottoman instead of the wood frame with cushions.  I would suggest that or get a used rocker/glider so you can have both.  My local Craigslist has a ton of gliders under $50 and rockers with no cushion for as low as $10.
