Hi ladies,
I have my NT test next week and although I cannot wait to have another ultrasound of my little peanut, I am a little nervous for the results of the test. I am 32 now and will be 33 when I deliver. I know that the risk for chromosonal abnormalities can go up with age so I was just wondering if there were any moms-to-be around my age who have had it done and had great results. Guess I am just looking for some reassurance! :-)
Thanks!
Re: NT results for moms over 30
Even if the nuchal measurement is low, you're going to have a higher statistical result because of age. It doesn't mean that anything is wrong, but it sucks.
I just turned 36 last week, so gone are my days of the 35-and-under results. Booooo!
12 long, hard years of TTC-
Miscarriages, losses, lots of treatments & drugs & IVF
Natural BFP (WTF?!) - 06/04/11 ~ lots of complication and drama, but sweet baby Adele born 02/07/12!
BFP #million -another girl for us! EDD - 05-08-15 (but will come early)
12/2010-hysteroscopy done to remove uterine polyps
6/2/11=BFP!!!!
EDD 2/12/12
I know women in their 20's who found problems at the NT & women closer to 40 who had them turn out great. As Entropic said, your stats will be higher if you're older, but early 30's isn't old at all!
I'm so glad you posted this because that's exactly how I feel now. I am 33 and will be close to 34 when the baby arrives. Knock on wood I had no problems with conception or anything so far. My 2nd US and tests are in 2 weeks and I am just praying that everything turns out ok...
Please, 30+ y-o ladies who have had the test, let us know how it went for you.
I will be 37 when I deliver in Feb. I had my NT scan and the start of the sequential scan just yesterday (they finish with a second blood draw after 15 weeks). Everything looked great! They spend a lot of time looking at the space between the spine, measuring crown to rump and looking for the nasal bone- all were perfect. The genetic counselor actually said that our risks are fairly low since our only risk is the over 30 thing. If you have a family history of mental retardation or other genetic concerns it might be higher, but otherwise age alone wasn't a huge concern.
On the plus side, the ultrasound was incredibly detailed. They gave me a disc of the images which rocks. We actually got to see it's fingers and toes, spine, ribs, brain, heart, bladder- all sorts of things.

I had mine yesterday. With the scan and 1st blood test my preliminary results were 1/3900 chance of down syndrome. For comparison, the doc told me a healthy 20 year old female has a 1/1000 chance.
I'm 33 and will be 34 when I deliver.
