Adding BM to purees and sippy cup questions

DD is EBF and we won't be introducing solids until she is 6 months, but I'm trying to plan ahead.  I'd like to make most of her food and have been told that adding BM to the purees will make it more likely that she likes everything.  If I thaw and use BM from my freezer stash can I freeze the purees or would In need to use fresh since it'd be refreezing the BM?  Also, has anyone tried BM in a sippy cup?  DD has been on a bottle strike since 2.5 months, and will only on a very rare occasion take one if I am gone and she is starving (even then only a couple ounces) so I am wondering if a sippy cup might work.

TIA

Re: Adding BM to purees and sippy cup questions

  • I don't think you can re-freeze your already once frozen BM. Check out www.wholesomebabyfood.com for more info. So I make the puree without breast milk (carrots, sweet potato, etc) and freeze it. Then when I defrost it and give it to LO, I add BM to get the right consistency. (SO I usually use 2 ounces of puree and thin it with 1 ounce of breast milk). Because I like to serve veggies at least at room temp, I warm the BM then mix it in.

I've never used frozen milk, because I pump off one breast in the am (he nurses off the other for his first am feeding). I usually get 5-6 ounces. I then pour one ounce into the medela 2.5 ounce containers and stick in the fridge (so 6 ounces=6 meals). So I warm an ounce in the am for DS' oatmeal, then I warm another ounce for the veggies at night (the fruit is usually thin enough pureed and I don't need to add BM).

I pout water in the sippy cup for practice. DS is not impressed with it, so i have no advice for you. You could always try it though.
