Is this unreasonable?

In the 3 hours we were at the pumpkin patch on Saturday, I took 170 pictures.  DH thinks this is an absolutely crazy amount.  I would rather take too many pictures than not get enough good ones.  In the course of that 3 hours she: played on the playground, went on a hayride to pick pumpkins, jumped in a blow up castle, rode a pony, and went through a corn maze.

And yes, I realize this is a stupid thing to post about, but the board is really really slow.

Re: Is this unreasonable?

  • This is the "problem" with digital --- with film, we would conserve because you didn't want to have to buy more film.  With digital, it's all too easy to take 20,000 pics in one day.  (I took over 100 last night --- in a 2.5 hour timeframe - at my in-laws anniversary dinner.  That should tell you how many I take when at a pumpkin patch!  :))
  • That's a lot more than I would take.  If I took that many it would mean that I wasn't really 'there' and that would piss off my DH.

But some people experience things through their cameras.  If that's how you are then I don't see any issue with it!

  • Interesting perspective Zenya --- I can always count on you for that!  :)

You have me thinking now.  I wonder if I take that many pics as yet another "avoidance mechanism"!??!?

  • It's not a stupid thing to post about.  What's stupid is your husband thinking it's an unreasonable amount of pictures to take.  Was your photo phrenzy an inconvenience on him or what?
  • I take tons of pics.  We were at the PP yesterday for about an hour and I took 70 pics.  A lot of it is snapping several shots of the same thing hoping for a good pic.  Out of all the ones I took, I probably got 20 good ones.  I can take pics and still be "present", KWIM?

  • Besides, who wouldn't want to take dozens and dozens of photos of that beautiful little face.
  • I somewhat agree with Zenya. I think I take a fair amount of pics (15-20), but if I were to take more, I wouldn't have really been able to play with him or really enjoy the time with him. I'm always chasing him, making sure he doesn't get into anything he shouldnt, make sure he doesn't get hurt, etc. I would never have that much time to take that many pics.
  • Did he think it was unreasonable because you couldn't interact with him and your dd while you were taking pics.  I think 170 is a bit much.  We went to the Pumpkin Patch on Sat. too and I think I took maybe 10-15 pics.
  • HA!  I always joke that I shoot at a rate of 200 photos per hour.  And I don't delete any unless they are out of focus.  I shoot in continuous mode, so it is pretty easy to get that many.  So, no I don't think that is unreasonable.

I think I tend to take about 20 in a row and then stop for a bit, and then take 20 more.  Out of that 20 I might get 4 good photos.  I don't actually have the camera out and in my hand the whole time.

Interesting thought though.  I think in the past there have been times where I kind of missed the moment because I was taking pictures of it.

I think he was just joking with me.  He didn't say anything about it until Sunday when I told him how many I copied over to the computer.  His problem is that he doesn't take enough.  He'll take 2 of DD and me, and I'll have my eyes closed in one, and she'll have hers closed in the other.

  • Reading the other responses, I can see that your husband may have been peeved if that's all you were doing the entire time you were there.  You didn't mention if that was the case or not.
  • I'm on the other end of the spectrum. I get so caught up in playing and running around, that I tend to not take many.

That does seem like a lot to me, but like I said, I tend to not take many at all.

Maybe I just like to play photographer even though I don't have a great camera (Canon PowerShot - great for point and shoot only) and don't know how to do all the fancy manual stuff to make colors pop.

  • I take pics until I have one or two good shots and then pack up the camera. 170 seems kind of excessive to me. I would agree that you miss out on the fun if you're constantly trying to get a picture of it.

If I had tried for a pp picture with ds actually looking at the camera, I would have wasted the whole trip.

  • We were there for 30-40 mins (pumpkin patch) and I think I took at least 40.  Honestly, get pumpkins and pictures are my main goal while I am there.  We don't have all that fun stuff at ours though

  • I'm the same as you - I take a ton of photos. But it isn't like I stand there with the camera in my hand constantly - but if something cute happens, I pull it out and snap a bunch hoping that at least one will turn out! But not related to that - did you ever hear from your boss??
