36 week check up... not what I call progress but....

I was a little concerned going in bc around 2 am I had some type of unidentified leakage. Doc did not think is was amniotic fluid, & perhaps it was cervical fluid. He did an internal to see what is going on and told me that I am only about a fingertip dilated, but he didn't mention effacement. He did say that baby's head is I have dropped "very low, and he is in a great position."

I asked if we would be scheduling the final ultrasound today, and he said, "let's wait and see what is happening a week from now." I said I was asking that for DH bc he will have 2 weeks break from school after Wednesday and wanted to make sure he could come to the ultrasound. he turned and said, "Oh, I'm pretty sure that we will be having this baby before then." I was like, "What did you say? Before when?" He said, "I think this baby is going to be here before he goes back to school."

This is my third pregnancy and I haven't ever really had an OB give me an estimate or anything.... it has usually always been more like "we will just have to wait and see."

I really don't think there is anyway he could know that it is going to be before 2 1/2 weeks from now.

Anyways... I guess I just thought that I would share.

What a great sentence... I apologize for my pregnancy brain. LOL

I have always hated when my OB gave estimates. With DD1 he told me from 35 weeks on, at EVERY appointment, "See you next week, but probably sooner at the hospital!" 

I would get all excited. I heard this for four weeks!

But then with DD2, at my 39 week appointment he said, "I bet you'll be calling me later. Nurse, call the hospital and let them know that Mrs. --- will be having her baby tonight."

And he was right! WTF? 

I hate it too!  My dr did that to me for weeks with my last pregnancy and it honestly just made it feel so much longer...  and this week she made her estimate again.  Ugg... gets me excited when I KNOW it means nothing really...  wish she wouldn't guess.

Ya I know, it is kinda cruel to get someone all excited and not really know.

My OB is for backup anyways, if things go as planned I am supposed to be delivering at a birthing center with my midwife. I told my midwife what he said and she told me maybe he is planning on stripping membranes or something and try to get things started.

I was like well I am not going to let that happen, so I guess as always we will just wait and see.

They did that to me with my last pregnancy too! They had me convinced she would come weeks earlier than she did and my parents even flew out to be here for it. My poor dad spent two weeks here and then took a plane to Florida the morning before I went into labor and missed the whole thing. And they made me feel like I was pregnant for about 47 weeks!

My OB said to me at my 38 week appt. (on a Thursday) that I wouldn't make it to Saturday as I was 3 cm, 70 percent effaced and having contractions every 20 mins or so.  Last week I was 4 cm, 80 percent effaced, contrax subsided and I am still pregnant.  He didn't think I would make it to my next appt this Thursday but I think I am going to make it.
