So confused? - pregnancy scare update

Okay...here's the update.

I went to the Dr. and had blood work done today (HCG Beta Levels/Progestrone).  He said he would call after lunch with the results.  I waited...

He finally called at 4:45. Much after lunch.

He said..."I have good news and bad news..depending on how you look at it".

He said my HCG level was 1. Which means that I'm NOT pregant.  Just trace levels  ?????  He said I can relax.

I said: "Why did I get a positive POAS test?"  "Why are my boobs sore, have cramping, nausea, vomiting, I am hungry all the time, I am more tired than usual?"

He said that is what we have to figure out.  That is the bad news.

Perhaps I have a Uterine polyp, or an ovarian cyst, or fibroids or something that is freaking my uterus out and causing pregnancy symptoms.  Which doesn't explain the positive pregnancy test.  He said that positive preg. tests do happen.

He said that it will probably work itself out by the end of the week...either get better or worse.  We scheduled an ultrasound for next Monday.  He wanted me to wait and see what happens.  I'm okay with waiting.  If it gets worse than we'll have the ultrasound to figure out what is going on.  If it gets better, than it get's better.

I am so confused. ?!?

So sorry that I got some of you freaked out and worried over nothing.  I truly felt like I was pregnant.  I still do.

Here is my whole thinking...I WAS pregnant and I lost it naturally and my body is working itself out...hence the spotting and cramping?  5 years ago had a miscarriage at 8 weeks and know what that feels like, and this is nothing like that, but still...maybe??

So sorry again, it honestly helped to "talk" to you all, if nothing else...here's hoping that I figure out what is going on with me soon.

Anyone can be cool, but awesome takes practice!

  • I may be wrong, but you said you POAS and forgot about it, then looked later and it was positive?  How long did you wait before you looked at the test? Could it have been an evap line?

Whatever is going on, I hope you figure it out soon and I hope your body calms down and you feel better.  Good luck!

No...I didnt' forget.  I forgot I was going to take the test and remembered at like 11 at night.  I took the test and got immediate results!  I stood there and watched it.  FWIW, I don't recommend taking a pregnancy test at 11 'o clock at night right before you go to bed...you won't sleep!

I'm not sure what a chemical pregnancy is..I'll have to look into that.

A vacation is good...in the mean time... a beer is going to have to work! Big Smile

  • A couple months ago I thought I was pregnant, too. My boobs were sore, I was always hungry, and I was more tired than usual. Then, one night, after DH and I had some chips and salsa and he left the salsa jar open on the table next to where we were sitting I asked him to please take it away right now b/c the smell was making me sick.  He jokingly said, "Maybe you are pregnant!"  So, I took a test the next morning and got a positive.  Explained all of the symptoms!  About a week later I started bleeding and went to the hospital for blood work and an u/s.  They couldn't find anything at all on my u/s so they rushed the bloodwork.  My hormone levels were 0.  I wasn't pregnant, never was.  The midwife said while it is uncommon sometimes you get a false positive.  It could be a bad test, some medicine that you took, any number of things.  We're still not sure what it was for me.  It was totally weird b/c I was having pregnancy symptoms.  But I was also 4 months pp so it could have just been my body still adjusting to not being pregnant anymore (I had already had 2 periods, but was late that month).

It could be that it was just a false positive.  I can't explain your symptoms.  Maybe you're just tired, just hungry.  I wouldn't worry about it too much until you talk with your doctor and try to figure out the cause of your symptoms.

  • Can you retest with a PG test and see what it says?

Not necessarily. It could`ve been a chemical pregnancy, a very very early loss. Most women who have these don`t even know it. :(

    It was a digital test.

I was going to ask about what kind of HPT test it was as well. Blue dye tests are notorious for false positives.

I'm so sorry for all that you are going through at the moment. How confusing!

  • a chemical pg is another word for a very early miscarriage. The term miscarriage is usually used when a loss occurs after 6 weeks. A chemical pg is when the loss occurs before 6 weeks.

When I had my cp, I had a beta of 21 at 14dpiui (I had multiple +hpts the day before). 3 days later, my betas were "less than 2" and I started bleeding.

Multiple chemical pgs can signal a problem, so this is why it's important to "know your body".
