Trouble TTC

introduction and clomid question

hello, I am coming back to this section since I had a miscarriage in April. You can read my siggy but short synopsis is I have a mullerian anomaly and pcos. not happy to be back here but hopefully we all wont be here long :)

I have a question about clomid. I am starting next cycle. i am taking it cd 3-7 and then I start to go in for monitoring on cd11. my question is how often did you all go in? my "instructions" say to call on CD 1 and then they will give me more detail about my monitoring.  From my conversation with my re it seems like it could be every da, or possibly less. I was just wondering what your experiences are. I just want to prepare myself because I live over an hour away from my re. Thanks!

  • Well, some RE's do CD3 monitoring for clomid (mine doesn't, especially on your first cycle). When you go in on CD11 they will check for follies and your lining. If everything is good, you can trigger and do IUI. I've always been good to go at my first midcycle monitoring appt. If you aren't ready, he/she may give your follies a day or two to mature and then come in again.

  • I always go in on CD3 for u/s and bloodwork.  Then again usually on CD14.  Once I started using a trigger shot w/clomid, they always advised me to take it on the night of CD14.  Then I would go back for IUI on CD16.  They may have more monitoring appointments depending on how the follicles respond.  HTH!

I suppose if you aren't triggering and doing IUI then it might be different- hopefully someone who has gone that route will chime in too...

I think it depends on the RE really.  Mine had me come in for CD3 monitoring even before I started doing IUIs to make sure there were no cysts since clomid can feed cysts and cause lots of problems.

  • i know i wont be coming in on cd3 but I am having blood work on cd3 ( i have to get my blood work done somewhere else because of my insurance). starting on cd 11 i go in to have blood work and us to measure my follicles and then when they are 18mm i take my ovidrel shot. i guess my question is how long does it usually take to get them 18mm or does it drastically vary? Also does your re measure them everyday or wait a day or 2 to measure again?

I don't go in for cd3monitoring either.  I go in cd14.  If I am not o'ing yet, I usually go in every other day until I am.  Although, this really does vary on a number of things like how your body reacts, your RE, what cd you go in on, etc.

  • ok that was exactly what I am looking for. I can do every other day. going every day would be a lot of driving though :( hopefully it is every other day for me too :)

  • Welcome!  I go in for monitoring CD3, then CD 10, 12, green light to do trigger that night, an IUI CD 14, followed by progesterone check CD 21 and beta CD 25.  I didn't make it to beta last time because I got AF on CD 23.

I always ovulate on my own though, and have what my RE says is a textbook response to Clomid - I've had very few if any s/e, and my cycle and it's "schedule" progresses the same way it does normally, just with more follies.  Someone that doesn't ovulate regularly could have different/more monitoring visits.

  • thank you all so much. we arent doing iui right now we are just trying clomid. I did get pregnant before but lost the baby so we know it is possible for me to get pregnant. I have never ovulated right but I lost 30 pounds so it is getting more normal (ie still really weird but I havent had a 100 day cycle since my weight loss). but if the clomid doesnt work it is onto iui. i had surgery to fix my messed up uterus so hopefully between the clomid and the surgeries that will do the trick... i hope

Good luck to all of you!!
