uneventful morning in L&D

sigh... I told the nurses last time that I wouldn't be back until August, but baby girl just had to prove me wrong Stick out tongue

Last night around 3 am, I started having contractions.. at first they were around 20 minutes apart. I thought they were false labor but sure enough, moving, showering, etc did nothing to make them go away. They were just far enough apart that I could have one, and finally get back to sleep, only to have another one fire up!

Around 6 AM they were about 7 minutes apart, and I was an emotional mess, my stomach was all torn up, and I was getting concerned. They stayed that way until about 8 so I called my OB.. they said to come on in to L&D. I called my mom to come & get DH & I- he called off from work- and we frantically did things around the house (hey, finally got her curtains hung up!) until they arrived and took us to the hospital around 9.

We were there, attached to the NST monitors, and had a cervix check (this one was much worse than the last!). I had some good solid contractions, then all of a sudden, they stopped. Just STOPPED. I was not dilated enough to be admitted & the contractions didn't cause any notable progress.

Baby's still an inside baby! Thank goodness, I don't think I'm ready just yet!! I'll certainly be an August Mama barring an act of God in the next 9 hours.

On another note.. the OB who was on call from the practice I use (actually, my very least favorite there) says this will probably be a c-section baby. She's head down & pressing on my cervix but we're not seeing any progress.. None. She said in her opinion, this is probably a sign that baby's too big to fit in my birth canal & frankly, she'd be too big to induce. I have a growth ultrasound on Thursday (was already scheduled) to determine how we will augment labor-  baby can't stay in past 39 weeks. She said if my cervix becomes favorable, we could possibly induce, but it's not likely at this time. Good thing I have two more weeks to figure out how she'll get here!

ok, sorry, but that ob is an idiot.  you're 37 weeks without progress?  that's NORMAL.  there is no way she can say that means the baby is too big.  and why can't the baby stay in past 39 weeks, do you have other complications?  maybe i'm missing something, but it sounds like your ob is itching for a c-section out of convenience.

I believe she has GD. Her OB is thinking that her baby is growing large and with that comes several risks. A lot of ladies with GD have babies that are too big to be born vaginally and a C-section is the safest way to deliver.

glad you still have an inside baby, sorry you had to go through all that though

that doc sounds like a moron...im really getting annoyed with all these docs jumping on the csection bandwagon....they are not fortune tellers and have no clue the real size of your baby...growth scans are always wrong it seems with weights. They should see if labor starts naturally or induce you and see what the heck happens and if no progress is made than go the csection route

This is correct.. I thought I'd mentioned that in my post Embarrassed. I do have GD and she's measured ahead all along, although we're absolutely certain of our dates.

I agree she's an idiot.. like I said, she's the one doctor in my practice (of about 9 OB's) that I really don't like. She didn't really hear me out on my desire to have a natural labor.. which really frustrates me. I think- as long as the baby isn't "too big" hypothetically on Thursday- that I'd like to try natural labor. I agree- 37 weeks is too soon to be saying much about delivery without active labor!

The doctor basically stuck me in a room for 4+ hours.. I was told I couldn't get up & move around. I honestly feel that if I had, even just pacing the halls or being able to reposition myself, maybe the contractions would've continued and they would've had something to look at! We're all aware that labor progresses best when we're allowed to move around.

Fortunately the growth US is with the specialist's office, not her practice, and none of my upcoming appointments are with her either. Each doctor there is very different.. and she's one who's just not up my alley!
