Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Baby wearing mamas, please advise!

E is almost 5 months...is it too late to start wearing him?

If not, I would like to start, any suggestions? I have a baby bjorn but i hate it. It hurts my back. And I got a seven slings one as a gift and I don't feel he is very secure in it. TIA

PS- When I carry him, he likes to face out so he can see everything :)

  • I have an Ergo but it doesn't have a facing out option but it gives me ZERO back issues. I would suggest a Beco if your LO likes to face out.   It it just like an Ergo but has the facing out option.

  • A Beco or pikkolo are your best options for LO to face out.

I chose the pikkolo over the Gemini. I love it. I wore C in it (front carry and back carry) for about 5 hours today!

The Gemini can face the baby forward or in the front facing towards you or on your back.  The Butterfly II has an inner harness.  We have the butterfly II.  I absolutely love it.  I can easily get LO on my back and know that she isnt' going to fall because she is "harnessed in."  Today we were shopping at the mall and DH took LO off him and held her in the carrier so I could put her on.  She will not fall as long as you hold onto the shoulder straps because she is harnessed it.  It's wonderful!  One thing about forward facing, it is often not recommended to do this past 15 lbs (it may be a bit higher) because it is very hard on your body because of how the weight is distributed.  It is also harder on LO because more weight is on the spine this way.  If your LO loves to face out, I would try a back carry because then your LO can still see everything but it will feel a lot better to you.  There are some stores some as granolababies.com where you can rent a carrier and try it out.  Also look to see if you have a cloth diaper store in your area because a  lot of them will have carriers in store that you can try out.  GL!

  • My DD loved loved being forward facing but when we got an ergo around 4.5 months she could not. Surprising to me she still loved it. Then when she got the head control for a back carry in either the ergo or a back pack carrier she really loves that. Getting a non forward facing carrier still worked well for us. I was hesitant but it worked for us. Ever LO is different.

  • It's never too late- I still wear my 3 year old occasionally.

If you're brave, look into a woven wrap. DD likes to look at everything too, and I wear her on my back so she can see outward. I got mine from an etsy seller, Babyette, and I LOVE it.

  • I had a Pikkolo and sold it....it killed my back. Got a Beco Gemini instead and love it. DS loves to face forward in it.
