I am still nursing my 15 month old. She only nurses a couple times a day and not but a couple minutes. Does anyone else nurse an older baby while pregnant? I am thinking she is going to wean herself off sometime during this pregnancy.
I was nursing my son... but I think my mild is slowly drying up by itself. I do have a friend who nursed her son for almost 6 months of her pregnancy... so it can be done. GL!
My first child just turned one. She was slow to start real food, and still nurses 4x a day, usually before naps and bedtime. My doctor said it was fine to keep nursing, but said my supply would probably dry up before the end of the first trimester. She also said some lame comment about how "in third-world countries, women just nurse right through to their next baby." Which kind of annoyed me....because I know a lot of women who have done that, not in the third-world. So far, it may have dropped a little, but DD's still happy to nurse as she was. I do hope to wean her before number 2 arrives, but I don't want to make it traumatic. I'm just taking it one day at a time.
My 14 month old still breastfeeds first thing in the morning, for about 5 minutes. I don't think there's much milk left actually - my let-down takes about 2 minutes to come through and then he swallows so much less than he did just a few weeks ago - so it must just be more about habit for him at this point. I'm planning on just stopping in about a month if he doesn't wean himself. I wanted to get through the end of our winter (Southern Hemisphere) in case it helps him with any immunity, but I doubt it's making much difference because there seems to be hardly any milk left.
Oh, and I read that for about 70% of breastfeeding women the milk reduces/dries up by the end of the first tri, no matter how much you're feeding (i.e. you can't increase your milk supply by increasing feedings). I hope you're in the lucky 30%! GL.
My SIL had her children 15 months apart. She wanted to continue nursing while pregnant, but because of the hormones (due to pregnancy) her DS stopped wanting it. She switched had to switch to formula. Surely its different for everyone.
DD is still nursing morning and night, but I don't think there's much left for her, poor thing. I stopped taking supplements after her birthday so my supply was already less, then she stopped nursing in the afternoon which I don't think helped. I'm sad, but at the same time the plan was to encourage weaning once I got pregnant. I'm hoping to be done around 18 months, if she even sticks with it that long. She's already getting fidgety with the bedtime feed and no longer falls asleep on the boob.
We'll be 16 months next week and LO still nurses at least 4, maybe 5 times a day. Like others, I can't imagine there is much there for him, but he loves it so much. I'm feeling guilty about encouraging him to be done, although so many around me have really put the pressure on to stop because of baby 2. Several of the ladies in my la leche league have nursed all the way through, and gone on to tandem nurse. I'm so torn, because I want LO to self wean, but I would like a little break before I have to start in again with # 2.
They say that the taste of your milk changes during pregnancy because of different hormones, so I wouldn't be surprised if she self weans soon. Some people BF through their pregnancy, but some are advised to quit at least by 20 weeks because it can cause contractions.

I am nursing my daughter. She is 5 months and nurses frequently throughout the day. I am planning on weaning her when she is 6 months. I was kind of thinking it would be better to wean earlier in the pregnancy in case she has a really hard time with it.
