This should be on 2nd trimester, probably - but I'm in my 3rd trimester, and I had my GTT late. It was done at 30 weeks instead of 24-28. At any rate, I failed the one hour test with a blood glucose of 208. That sounded really high to me and has got me kind of freaked out. They can't get me in for the 3 hour until Monday, so I was wondering if you that failed the 1 hour could share your numbers with me. Has anyone had a very high number and gone on to have a normal 3 hour test - or should I just accept that I have GD probably?
Thanks.
Re: 1 hour glucose tolerance test
I think it could go either way. Did you eat anything before the test? Were you instructed to fast? Etc etc.
My 1 hour number was 190 and I did end up failing the 3 hour. But I'm sure it can go either way, even at that number.
I failed the 1 hour glucose test and my number was 200. They didn't even have me to the 3 hour test. They sent me right to a GD sepcialist.
I have been on a strict diet for the past 2 weeks. Unfortunately several of my numbers have been high so I have to start insulin today. I go see the nurse at 2 today.....she shows me how to give myself the shot and everything.
Hopefully you won't get to that point.
I am surprised with that high of a number though that they still make you do the 3 hour test.
For my doctor, anything over a 200 on the 1 hour tests results in a GD diagnosis. You don't even have to take the 3 hour test. I'll be honest, with that high of a number, I think your odds are greater that you'll fail the 3 hour, but anything is possible.
I don't think GD is all that bad. I'm on insulin with all meals and at bedtime and now that I'm used to it, its not a big deal at all.

I wasn't diagnosed until 31 weeks. My doctor wasn't too worried about that, just said that all we can do is go forward. Everything has looked good so far for me and baby.
I know its really nervewracking, but try not to worry too much. You can't control if you have it or not. Its not really that bad, I promise. The girls over on the High Risk board are super helpful, so head there if you need info!

I was feeling the same way....I actually had a breakdown at work because that was when I found out.
Hopefully you will be able to just manage it with diet and exercise.
I just keep telling myself this:
1. It is only temporary
2. It is what is best for the baby and me
I totally understand how upset you are. It is no fun in my opinion but you have to do what is healthies for the baby and you. If you ever need to chat about it let me know. I am right there with you.
You passed but they are still treating you like a GD?
Just failed mine today with a 151.
I'm not sure when I get to take the 3 hour (yipee!).
I know it is a manageable condition and not really that big of a deal, but I don't want a nutritionist to take away my sprite and pita bread with hummus. I think I'm going to eat all the crap I can get my hands on now, before DH finds out. (I'm half joking)
On the plus side, from most of what I've read, the GD DX and new eating plan is supposed to make losing the baby weight a bit easier once LO is born.
yea because i just barely passed. the only "treatment" is watching what i eat and how much i eat of certain things.
