Breastfeeding

Bottles at set times?

Good morning all!

I still have a couple of months before I really need to worry over this but I'm a planner by nature so I like to prepare myself the best I can.

Ideally, I would love LO to take at least 1 (possibly 2) bottles of pumped milk a day.  I've talked to a couple of friends that would pump a bottle and let their husband take one of the night feedings so they can get more sleep.  They said plan on doing the same time frame for the bottle every night so it won't mess up your supply.

Now I'm also wondering if I should do the same thing for a bottle during the day.  I am gone around lunch almost every day of the week and I don't want to nurse in public (personally level of privacy). It also might be where I am busy and need someone else to feed LO. Is that okay to give LO 2 set bottles of milk and still be able to nurse the other times throughout the day?

Any advice on what would be the best time to pump those bottles?  Or advice from anyone doing something similiar?

Also, obviously right at first I will be more concerned with getting nursing established but like I said, I'm always planning for the future.

TIA!

  • The best time to pump is when the baby is being fed - to keep your supply in sync. I thought I was going to pump to let DH do a night feed... but when we tried, I was awake anyway with engorged breasts and because I couldn't sleep through the crying. By the time it would have helped, I was getting enough sleep and baby was sleeping longer. The plan just didn't work at all.

I encourage you to reconsider nursing in public. Use a cover if you want, but nothing is as quick and convenient as nursing. I try to be sensitive to my surroundings, but I'll feed my baby anywhere and any time he's hungry. The more restrictions you put on yourself, the more likely you are to decide breastfeeding "doesn't work" for you.
