mom 2 b with celiac

Hi,

I found out a year and a half ago that I have celiac. My doctor is very unfamilure with it, and the information my husband and I have learned so far as been what we have read online. We were sure to get a gluten free prenatal and folic acid I was wondering if anyone has celiac, if it has caused complications in their pregnancy, and if they have any tips...Thanks

Re: mom 2 b with celiac

  • I don't know a lot about celiac at all but I would think that your doctor should at least have some knowledge. My DD is allergic to wheat and I am still breast feeding, so I do know the challenges of a gluten-free diet! I don't know how long you have been gf, but my biggest dietary challenge has been subduing m/s without any wheat in my diet! Would your insurance cover a nutritionist visit? I went to see one due to training for a marathon on so many dietary restrictions and she was SO helpful. I bet a nutritionist would be able to help you learn more about celiac and your needs. Good luck!

  • I don't have Celiac, but I am gluten free because I have an intolerance or sensitivity, whatever you want to call it.. I was concerned as well, and asked my doctor right away.  She said she has tons of patients with Celiac and it's completely fine for the baby.  Just keep doing what you're doing as long as you feel good.  She said the baby will be totally fine without gluten!  Hope that helps a little!

  • I was diagnosed about a year and a half ago. I agree my doc should have some knowledge, but at this point Im more educated on the condition then he is. My insurance does not cover a nutritionist. We looked into paying out of pocket and they wanted about $800.00. I have been doing really well with all the changes of being GF, but now that Im pregnant Im concerned there maybe complications in the pregnancy due to it. I know there are no nutritional benefits to eating gluten, so maybe not? I would love to talk to someone who has gone through a GF pregnancy. Thanks so much for responding...Good luck to your DD! :) Hope u have a good day

  • I have celiac too, diagnosed about a year ago.  So far no issues with my pregnancy as long as I stay away from gluten.  One of my symptoms from the celiac was low iron.  Once I cut out all gluten my iron levels went back up to normal.  Don't have much advise for you other than stay away from gluten.

  • The prenatals at Walmart in the jar are gluten free and safe. I THINK you will have a normal PG just stay away from Gluten and you should be fine.  With Man or women chances are same of the child becoming Celiac.  My hubs is and my DD has the gene but is Not yet Celiac. Good luck.  H&H 9 mos. :)
