I just checked the status of my doppler (because I'm so anxious!) and it says it has been DELIVERED! Now I'm counting down the minutes til I go home and try this sucker out.
I'd love any tips, tricks or advice you doppler users have! I bought the Sonoline B 3 mhz (or whatever the abbrv. is for that). I'm telling myself not to flip out if I don't find it, but there's a good chance right?
Re: Doppler Tips?
I found the HB for the first time last night (after trying a few days a week for a couple of weeks).
Don't panic if you don't find it right away. I have a little extra padding around my middle, so I had to put a little more pressure than I noticed others applying of youtube. I found it right along the pubic bone.
Take your time, and move slowly across your tummy starting really low, and moving up towards your belly button.
I hope you find it! Good Luck!
I've tried on an empty bladder and a full bladder and had the same results, but some say a full bladder works best.
Lay flat, with your legs straight out. Put a hefty amount of gel on the doppler things and start on mode 1. Start right above your pubic bone, literally right above the ridge and move slowly from one side to the other (excrutiatingly slowly). Cover about 4 inches across the middle and then move up half the width of the wand. repeat and repeat until you find it. Sometimes you might have to apply more gel. If you think you found it, you can tilt or slide it a little bit to see if it gets louder. If you find something that's around 120, that's you. Keep moving. If you can't find it, put it away for an hour or two and come back and try again. Sometimes the baby will have moved to a better position.
Some days it's so faint, I can barely hear it. Then some days he's closer to the surface and I can hear loud and clear. I called my mom yesterday morning and said, g'morning, baby wants to say hi! And she heard over the phone.
Oh and don't pay attention to the digital output. You can try putting it on mode 2 (more accurate), but it's just now starting to register close to the actual bpm. I use the stopwatch function on my phone and count beats for 10-15 seconds and calculate the actual bpm. The hb is still sometimes too soft for the digital to pick it up correctly.
Becareful around your pubic bone area, you have your own HB there as well and is often mistaken for the baby's HB. The best way to know if it's yours or the baby's is test the HB with your own by feeling your jugular. If it's the same HB as yours, then chances are you are hearing yours. Just double check
That's close to what I did and I found it yesterday as well!
I found mine as well, and put my finger on my pulse, and it matched. The baby's HB was much faster, and did not match my pulse, so I knew I found what I was looking for.
