LO is 1 week old today. We had some latching issues in the hospital bc my right nipple is inverted but I'm wearing shells and it's getting better, I think. I just get hot and my nipple basically disappears. Anyway, LC said to feed 15-30min on each side and then pump 30 min on each side. Sometimes LO will eat 20 min on each side, sometimes I can barely get LO to feed more than 10 min on each side. She has normal diapers and everything, she doesn't seem starving... am I doing this right or should I go see the LC at her ped's office?
Re: Am I doing this right?
First thing...relax. If your baby is pooping/urinating and seems happy after a feeding then you are doing it right. Why are you pumping for 30 mins after a feeding? Are your trying to boost your supply?
This. If baby is content and pooping and peeing consistently, I wouldn't be worried about it. I'm also curious as to why you're pumping...
Ditto both of these.
Other things that might help your nipple:
Shields - but proceed carefully and with the help of an LC.
Pumping for a minute before feeding draws out the nip.
