1st Trimester

Getting pregnant after Jolessa?

I have been on Jolessa for the last 2 years. And was told by my doctor that I can skip  the white pills so I haven't had a period in about 2 years. My husband and I are trying to have a baby. A few days after I stopped the pill I received my period. Could I be ovulating? Are my chances of getting pregnant this month high?

Re: Getting pregnant after Jolessa?

  • None of us has any way of knowing whether or not you're ovulating. Some women ovulate their first month off of birth control, and others don't. To know for sure if you're ovulating, start charting your basal body temperature. I recommend Fertility Friend (you can get there by clicking the link that says "My BFP Chart" in my signature.) The tutorials and information there will help you learn more about your own body and your cycle.

Also, the Trying to Get Pregnant board is probably a better place for you to ask questions about ovulation than the 1st Trimester board.

  • I ovulated my first cycle off of the pill, and conceived during cycle 2.  I would recommend charting to get a better feel for your cycles, as they can be a little off after going off the pill.  Good luck!

  • I've heard that the chances of getting pregnant right after going off the pill are higher and that the rate of twins (fraternal) is higher because your body is over compensating for all the missed ovulation cycles and releases more eggs.  I also took Jolessa for over a year, but never skipped my periods.  I went off in January and decided to regulate my system before trying, but in May, we tried for the first time and were successful which did surprise me since I had read it can take 3-6 months of trying.  I have a friend who tried the month right after going off and she was successful too.
