1st Trimester

To "find out the sex" or "not to find out the sex"???

I know it is way early... about 3 weeks along and just found out YESTERDAY! yay! We have played the name game before we were even sure we were going to have more kids. But tonight he tells me he wants the sex of the baby to be a SURPRISE????  GASP!!!!

He is in his late 40's has a daughter and a son that are grown. I am early 30's with 5 yr old girl and  4 yr old boy. So we have each had one of each and we really will be happy with either sex for the newest edition.... but I'm a planner and I already have to wait for so many things and milestones... I dont know if I can wait the whole 9 mos to find out. This is our first child together, and probably the last one (maybe). Should we leave it for a surprise? Anyone out there not see eye to eye on this? and what did you decide?

  • My DH and I both are "find out the sex" people!  As much as a surprise sounded kind of fun for two minutes, we just really want to know what the LO will be before they arrive.  How does your SO feel about you knowing and him finding out at the delivery?

  • The suspense was killing me, so I had to do an elective u/s at 16 weeks.  AWESOME.

  • We're planners too, and it's killing us just waiting until our anatomy scan ultrasound in 2 weeks to find out boy/girl.  I can't imagine what it would be like to be in suspense until the end!  We are considering keeping the secret between the two of us for a while after we find out.

  • Congratulations and welcome.

We always want to know but this time I had a second of "Do we really want to find out?" and voiced that to DH. He laughed "Of course we do!" He knows me.

There is plenty of time to decide either way. Even if aren't sure by 20 weeks, you can still have them write it down for you in case you change your mind and want to know later in the pregnancy. GL!

  • Congrats!!! There are very few surprises in life, and since you both have 1 of each, why not?!! My friend didn't find out for either of her boys and it was so much fun for them and the family to make guesses for the whole 9 months. She said it made the birth that much more special and motivating. You may never get the chance to do this again! GL :)

  • I had always had the dream of finding out what my baby was in the delivery room.  DH really wanted to know, but finally we agreed for the first one, we wouldn't know. This way for us, we weren't tempted to buy items in a certain color.  We got all of our big stuff, decorated the nursery and so on in neutral colors so we can use it again.  Now, with number 2, I told DH he could decide if we would find out or not. He said he's decided we won't, because it was "a pretty good surprise to wait."  That's our experience. GL
  • First of all Congratulations!!  For DH and I this is both our first child and we both have different views on finding out before or waiting until birth.  I would like to wait and he wants to find out.  I think that it would be such a wonderful moment to find out when the baby is born.  We will buy things in neutral colors so when we have more we can use the baby things again  instead of buying all new gender specific.  I'm sure whatever decision you guys decide it will be the best for you.  GL!!

We didn't find out with DS, and it was amazing! Nothing can take that moment away in the delivery room when you find out. You wait 9 months, guessing and waiting and when you finally find out, just wow. It made labor so exciting for me. I will always be Team Green.

  • Congrats on your pregnancy!!!! I have nothing against those on "Team Green", but I NEED to know what I'm having b/c I'm a planner and there's no way I can't know, lol. DH, my mom and my sisters are DYING to know too, so I'm going in for the elective 3D gender scan at 16wks. Since my baby shower will be thrown in early Nov, it makes sense to know by the begining of Sep anyway so the registry will be done and complete by then. I find that most people want to buy gender specific things for the baby shower anyway, so it makes sense all around to find out ASAP, lol!

  • I do not want to find out the sex and DH does.  He said we can find out with this one and not find out with the rest.  I said we can not find out with this one and find out with the rest.....

As soon as my morning sickness kicked in and he saw how miserable I was he said we could do whatever I wanted Big Smile  Works for me!!

  •   I have to find out when I'm far enough along. I'm only 10 weeks so I still have a ways to go. I can't wait to decorate and buy clothes but this is our first.
