Re: I should be writing my maternity lesson plans

  • you have to write lesson plans for your maternity leave?!? YUCK! I feel bad for you. How long are you taking off? How do you even write plans for that far in advance?

  • Yes I have to write plans. Im taking off from Nov 24- Feb 2 (at least thats the plan) but I have planned from Oct 28 on. I just give a sub an idea on what she needs to be doing. Its really easy, I just don't feel like writing them out.
  • I dread doing those. I will not do detailed plans but more of an idea of subject/topics to cover.  I do feel lucky though.  I have a student teacher and she is just going to take over my leave.  Such a great transition!
  • UGH.....I dread doing that too.  I don't even know who my sub will be and I have no plan yet.  My principal hasn't even asked.  I mean she knows how long I will be out but we haven't talked about details.
  • HA! My principal has two in mind, but they cant start until Dec 1 and I'm planning on going out Nov 25!
  • Half way done is better than not at all, I think you are doing great.

  • Bleh!  I have to get mine done this week!!  Every time I feel like I'm in good shape, I realize a whole different component of plans that I forgot (I'm making a big binder for her with EVERYTHING she could ever possibly need in it).

Luckily, I am only working half time this year so I don't have to plan every subject and my partner teacher and classroom aide will be there for some consistency.  I was able to get the long term sub that I wanted and she's pretty good (from what I've seen).  She's scheduled to come in next week for a couple of days to observe, go through plans with me, etc and I know I have to get this done before then.

Once she's got her binder and an idea of what to do, she's on hold until I go into labor.  Administration is trying to push me out before my EDD, but I won't hear of it.  As a job sharing teacher, I don't qualify for any maternity leave, so I'll be using all of my sick days for this and any days beyond that will be unpaid.  I'll only be out until after Christmas vacation and I want to minimize the unpaid days I have to take.  I will be teaching until this baby is crowning!!

  • you have to write maternity lesson plans?  when I leave, my sub takes over including all plans. sorry:(

  • yuck.... that sucks that you have to write plans.

I am going to write a basic outline of what has to be covered, and where to find my files/folders of the information needed.  I figure, this person is going to be subbing for me for 4 months, she/he has to do their own thing.....
