Baby Names

The nn "DJ"

I explained in a previous post several days ago, that DH insists (if it's a boy) that we name him David (after him), but that we will call him by his middle name. I thought this was really weird, but many people commented that this is not a new tradition, just new to me.

So I was thinking if we gave DS the middle name Jeffery (after my Dad) we could call him DJ, that way we don't have to cal him David or Jeff.

What do you think? My sister says it makes her think of the character on Full House from the 90's. I actually kind of like it, but I wanted some second opinions.

Ty!

Re: The nn "DJ"

  • Hmm, it's all right. I've never really cared much for initial nicknames, but I don't see anything wrong with it.

  • I also think of Donna Jo (DJ) on Full House. But that's not a horrible association.

  • I hate it, sorry.
  • I really don't like initial names. But it's better than BJ

  • I have a very strong aversion to nicknames as such, sorry!
  • I also think of DJ Tanner from full house whenever I hear DJ... and my fn/mn initials are DJ!

Its still ok to use. I think I've usually seen the mn be James, but any J name would work with any D name to use DJ.

yeah I hate inital names and I just think of "Deej" from Full House and the little boy from Roseanne, No

  • I think of DJ Tanner, too but that's because I watched the show.  Your son's contemporaries won't have any idea there were ever shows called Full House or Roseanne to make the connection, so while I don't really like initials as nicknames, I think you'd be fine calling him DJ without a problem.

  • I know someone that is named after his father and goes by DJ, but it stands for Daniel Jr. DJ is nms, but as far as initial names go it's not too bad.

Also, I don't know if you meant to spell it Jeffery in your post, but I would definitely spell it Jeffrey if I were you (regardless of how your dad spells it!).

  • I like initial nicknames!  Before I knew I was having a girl, I considered doing this as well - b/c DH's first name is Glenn and he was named after his grandpa.  So I wanted to use his name, but not really call my kid Glenn, lol.  And I agree with PP, as long as the initials aren't BJ, it's all good!

  • I don't think it is so bad.  I don't see a problem with it, I know a few DJs so it may just be that I am use to it.  If it is what you like then I would go for it, it does seem better than going by the mn.

  • I don't like it.  It seems tacky to me.

  • Thanks for all your honest responses. It's not my favorite thing in the world either to be honest. But DH will not budge on first name being David, which is driving me CRAZY!

I think we'll have to go the middle name route. *sigh*

Also, in regards to Jeffery vs Jeffrey. Yea, my Dad's name is actually Jeffery. I know it's dufus, but my Grandmother wanted him named after her brother, who was Jefferson. :)

ETA: Sorry for my duplicate post... I think I clicked send before I was finished and I tried to backtrack, and well obviously that didn't work out too well.
