EBF/EP'ers that have travelled with LO

Just wondering about your experience storing and travelling with BM for LO. Were you held to the 3oz max for each bottle? I just called my airline carrier and was informed that bottle should have no more than 3oz of BM each...

Re: EBF/EP'ers that have travelled with LO

  • I've traveled both with and without LO. When I traveled with LO I didn't carry any milk, just nursed her when ever she was hungry. The times I traveled without DD I carried on my pump and all of my milk. The last two trips I carried home over 140 oz without a problem. I stored some milk in bottles and some in bags, and used ice packs and an insulated bag to keep it cool.

It really depends on the airport how difficult it is to get through security. Sometimes I've gone through with no problem and other times it has taken forever. It seems to help if I mention I have breastmilk or a breast pump before I place it on the belt.

Hope this helps, but let me know if you have other questions. Best of luck!

  • that is WRONG. you are able to take BM in a "reasonable quantity given your itinerary" which basically means as much as you want. I took 100ish oz as the other pp and it was no problem. Each container (bag or bottle) had 3-6 oz. Just print out the TSA regulations.

  • Thanks ladies...I was rolling my eyes as the airline rep told me this...knowing that it didnt make much sense.

  • TSA regulates how much liquid on the plane, not the airline so you might want to check their site.  Here's a link for ya!

  • I didn't know about the limit in oz.  When I flew with Kami, I had two 8oz bottles filled with BM on my carry on and they let me through.  They had to check it somehow to verify it didn't have any explosive chemicals in it.

When I flew out I remembered to declare the BM at security and didn't have any problems.  When I flew back, I forgot to mention it and they did pull it aside to test it.  The screener said it was because I had it stored in more than 3 oz bottles, but all they did was wave some test strips above the open bottle.  Nothing touched the milk.

I did have the link to the TSA BM policy on my phone just in case I ran into any trouble, though.
