20 wk sleeping vent and help please!

i've had a few bad sleeping nights, but last night was just terrible!  i couldnt get comfy for nothing in the world... used the body pillow btwn my legs, alternated propping up one of my hips, used a pillow under my head (usually dont sleep w pillows at all b/c the elevation gives me headaches).  i would doze off for a few minutes only to wake with soreness and realize it was just that --a few minutes. finally, my 4y.o. dd came in the room about 5am saying she had a bad dream.  i sent her to potty and got in her full-size bed with her. slept for about 1.5 hrs --not the best rest, but it was good to just fall asleep for a while!  her mattress is firmer than mine.

any tips on what you do to sleep comfortably?  mostly, my right hip hurts but my belly is most comfortable on that side. strange.  should i lie on the hip that hurts? elevate it?  any suggestions to relieve the soreness.  i feel like my hip is cracking when i move it, even to walk.

  • First, I'm really sorry. I've had a few bad nights, but nothing like that.

Second, hopefully this is a fluke night - I think everyone's had a bad night here and there that didn't become a streak of really bad nights. So that's my hope - that you just had one really bad night and tonight will be a bit better.

Third, my doctor told me it was ok to tilt to the front or back, as long as I wasn't flat on my back (and obviously I can't go flat on my stomach). Maybe try getting some pillows (or your body pillow) to prop you and sprawl so that your hip isn't such a focal point for your body weight. I do a modified flamingo most nights - top knee raised up and forward, bottom leg straight - and I tilt my hips so that my bottom leg is knee-facing-the-bed. My top knee is either touching the mattress after going over the body pillow or is suspended in the air (depending on how much support I need that night). My belly is supported and I sort of twist my top half so it's more square to the bed so I'm not on my belly.

  • I've been going through this same thing. i lay on my right side and my belly feels good, but then my hip starts going numb and becomes crazy painful. when i switch to my left side, i feel very nauseated and my stomach feels soooooo heavy. i found that if i put a pillow or blankets or something under my stomach to give me a little bit of support, it helps.

sorry, but it only gets worse as your tummy gets bigger Crying

my pain started at about 21-22 weeks and has continuely got worse

My hips are killing me.  At this point I usually get up for a couple hours at night and sleep on the sofa - somehow it's squisher and i can get into a comfy position.

  • thanks for commiserating and offering suggestions, ladies!!  i hate to complain b/c i'm so grateful for the pg, but gees!  sometimes it's more about "is this normal" rather than a complaint.  i had a wonderful pg with my dd, so this nausea and soreness, combined with having a tough time getting off the floor, etc. is very new to me!

i'm sure we'll all get through it!  we were made for it ;)
