When should I wean DD

from the nipple shield that Our LC gave to Us?  I have tried to get DD to nurse w/o the shield & She just looks at Me like really Mom?  What am I supposed to do with this thing?(my nipple)  I find it really difficult to NIP with the shield.  It is a production to put it on & get DD situated, also the shield fills up w/ milk & when DD is done, She pulls it off of me & milk goes everywhere!  Any suggestions, or am I going to need the shield forever?

My LC said to try to start w/ the sheild then once she gets going, unlatch her, quickly dry off your nipple, compress your breast w/your hand to make it firmer, then try to latch her w/o it.  It took several weeks before DD figured out what to do.  I also had success nursing on one side w/ the sheild, then 2nd side w/o.  Then all the sudden this Sat, she wouldnt latch at all w/the sheild and she's been nursing w/o it since!  I seriously thought it might never happen, but it will when she's ready! Be patient and GL!
