April 2011 Moms

I spent yesterday with a 5-year old...

And, oh, there are many highlights to share :-) The best one was she asked, "Can I watch your baby suck milk out of your boobies?" Her mom actually said if I was okay with it, she'd be okay with it, so she could learn how babies eat.

When her mom and I made a quick trip to the farmers' market and WalMart, she sat in her booster seat, and Liam's baby seat was next to her. She kept telling him stories while we were driving. I think I recognized The Frog Prince. Then, she wanted Liam to watch her put on a Hula dance show for him. He actually did sit up on my lap and watched her traipse around the room. Oh, and she made a card for him using heart-shaped rubber stamps, scissors that cut a scalloped shape, and wrote his name on it. There was something funny she said like, "I have to like him because I know how to write all of the letters in his name."

It was really sweet and made me think that if I have another LO, five years is a nice space. She actually played with him on the playmat and got me things for his diaper changes...and cried when we left Crying

  • that's awesome.  my friend has 7 years between her kids, and they were visiting the other week.  i thought the same thing about them.  the older one is so helpful with entertaining/grabbing things.  of course i'm sure you could also experience strong jealously since the older one will actually remember a time when the new lo wasn't around.

  • OMG....that is so cute!

My niece is 9 years old and she is a tremendous help with my LO.  I love having her around to help me.  My niece says my DD is her little sister.

  • My sister was almost 6 when I was born and it really did work well for us. We seriously have only fought maybe a handful of times in our 29 years together. She was totally like a little mom when I was born since she loved to help. I wish my SIL would explain nursing to my niece who is 5, her sister was fed from a bottle so she doesn't get why I take DS upstairs for a feeding and I don't know if it is my place to explain.

  • I just spend the week with my 7-year-old and 4-year-old (twins) cousins. They loved DS so much. They wanted to play with him all the time and the little ones were fascinated by how he ate (they were all breastfed, so the older one has seen it before). One of them asked me if I made white milk or chocolate milk, ha!

    Aww that is so cute.

My older girls are 3 years apart and it was perfect for us.  Since I am an older mom I am planning on TTC soon and there wont be that big age gap so I will have the experience of the age gap and the close in age siblings.

(EDIT AF hasn't returned yet so it could take awhile to know when I am ovulating)

  • I have spent every day for the last 3 weeks with my 8 year old nephew and 6 year old niece whom are visiting from out of state. EVERY DAY my niece would tell me "Aunt Stephanie, I can see that you are ready to party!"  I have no idea where that came from, but it was hilarious.
