Replacing PISA parts?

I BFed my DS for 1 year, and I am expecting LO #2 in February. I used a PISA once or twice a day to keep a freezer supply. I have never replaced any of the parts but did notice a little less suction power towards the end of the year. What do I need to replace to have it ready for the next baby?

Re: Replacing PISA parts?

  • Make sure you get those little white round rubber membranes that stick into the yellow drip flow things.  LOL! Sorry IDK what those are called!  My PISA wasn't really sucking the other day and we read the manual to trouble shoot and it said to make sure the membranes weren't ripped.  Well, they were!  I'm an EPer and wash these dang things 20x's a day!  I guess taking them off that frequently made little tears in them.  Once they were replaced, it was working like new again!  That may be all you need to replace to get them to work well again.  I'd also get new breast shields. GL!

  • New membranes...I heard you have to replace those things pretty frequently.

  • Membranes for sure (change them every couple months or whenever they tear), and you might want to replace the tubing if it seems like there was any moisture in there, or if the ends that connect to the pump seem like they're not tight (they get stretched out).

Also open up your faceplate and take a look  that it's clean and not moldy.

You could even call Medela to have them help troubleshoot and make sure it is functioning properly, even though your warranty is expired their customer service is really great. There's some sort of membrane in the motor that you might need replaced too, you'd have to order it through them.

A lot of moms think the suction is going down when really their supply is just changing. As your LO ages, you produce less but more calorie rich milk. Find AmyG for an explaination.
