My BF's husband was a rep when he was young. He swears by them. I honestly wasn't in love, and neither was my hubby (a professional cook). Not sure this is helping.
I have heard good things. My friend and his parents both own a set and have had them for years. They are also made in the USA, so that may explain some of the price.
I would consider them for our next set personally, but am curious to see what others say.
I think I made my decision not to go with them. They really are amazing knives...but not $800 worth of great knives. You know? There are a lot of other things right now that I could spend $800 dollars on.
Former sales rep here, lol. I have a full set and I've had them since high school (12 years). I really do like them and will order more pieces again. That said, most professional chefs prefer straight blades and take much netter care of their knives than the average joe. The cutco edge is great for non- pro use because it retains its sharpness without frequent sharpening and they are durable. The knives are expensive, but if it make syou feel better, they pay their reps well. I worked for them on and off for 3 years because the pay was so good (commission based).
My husband sold them for awhile, and so has a very basic set. Someday, when we are independently wealthy, we plan to fill out our knife bock with nothing but Cutco. They're expensive, but I love those knives.

I don't think they work that well. We have Shun chef's knives that are really sharp, though, so that might be part of it. For example, I cut almost my entire fingertip off a couple of years ago (it's fine now btw) and had absolutely no pain because the cut was so clean.
My parents and in-laws have both had Cutco and I sometimes have a hard time cutting with them and so does H, who cooks all of our meals. I think that you can probably find better quality knives for a similar price.

We had a rep come to our house last year and we bought a set of steak knives (that was all we could afford). One year later, they are still in perfect condition. They are dishwasher safe and we use them to cut almost everything because they are the sharpest knives in the house! We want to get more as soon as we get more $$ Go for it!!
