The below post made me think- Should I bring the pump with me to the hospital for the LC's to show me how to use it? Is this necessary?
FTM, never used the pump and not sure if it would be helpful to have the LC give some instruction or if it is easy enough to just learn properly from the manual.
Re: bring Breastpump to hospital?
Personally, I don't think it's necessary to take it to the hospital. I think you can learn it easily enough from the manual.
And if you think you need the pump in the hospital, they will let you use their pump, and give you the tubing and parts.
3 more miscarriages and finally a correct diagnosis (septate uterus) and a corrective uterine surgery later, our second blessing is here!
You don't need to. They taught me on a different pump at the hospital, and let me use theirs while there, and it transferred easily to my pump when I got home.
I did have an LC show it to me at the hosp, and it was very helpful, I would recommend that if you could get one there.

When I had DS # 1 I was asked to bring it to the hospital, I did not and DH was sent by the nurses to get it so they could show me how to use it and they gave me replacement parts.
This time around I was not asked to bring it, but it was my second LO.
I dont think its necessary.
I used the hospital one once the 2nd night because she wouldnt take the left breast and her level for jaundice was high so I used the hospitals pump and got to take the parts home that are compatible with my medela pump at home. I think I also got to keep the manual pump too that happened to be in the same bag as the other parts but the actual machine I used was the hospitals. I wonder if I will get charged for using it or for the parts we got..?
