Baby Names

Is it okay to use the same name?

Hi all!

I have a baby name etiquette question. I had a friend in college that we were really great friends for a couple of years. The last couple of years of school we drifted apart though. We now live in different states, and keep in touch on occasion through facebook.

Anyway, she named her daughter Lily. I have loved this name since I was a kid and I watched the movie "Legend" and Mia Sara played the character "Lili". I have other girls names that I do like so it wouldn't be the end of the world for me to pick another name. I just like having it on the table. I am just wondering if it is bad form to consider using the name? Thanks all!

  • You can name you child what ever you want, including Lily. It shouldn't be an issue.

    Yes, you can use it.

  • If you love it, use it.  Even if you were in closer contact w/ her, even if she was your sister - you could use it (even though I realize most people wouldn't in that situation! ;)).  But as you aren't close, she doens't live in the same area - I'd use it.

  • I see nothing wrong with using the same name.

I agree - plus Lily is very popular anyways.

  • Go ahead and use it!  As another poster said, Lily is a popular name anyway.  If you love it, go for it!
