Pregnant after a Loss

Wanna play ask a new mommy?

I have more than 5 minutes to myself and don't have to type with just one hand since dh has taken over soothing meredith :). He's such a good boy.?

So I know I have only been a mommy for a couple of weeks, but if you have any questions let me know.

We bf and have introduced the bottle & paci already.

She sleeps in our bed, in her bassinet/carriage & her crib.

She was born vaginally with an epi and an episiotomy.

No question is to TMI. I promise. ?

  • What's your favourite and least favourite thing about being a Mummy?

  • Most fave: There are soooooo many things. That she recognizes me & my voice from where ever I am. She will always lean in the direction of my voice no matter who's holding her. She also smiles now when I make funny faces at her. And she mimics some faces which is hysterical when she wants to play, she'll stick her tongue out at people. LOL?

Least fave: Her crying & me not knowing why. Sometimes it really makes me ?feel guilty & sometimes I just need to put her down & walk away because I'm so frustrated. That then makes me feel guilty too.?That's the worst part.?

  • If I remember correctly, you are a clean freak like me.  Have you been able to maintain your house the way it was before Meredith arrived? I know it will not be as clean, I have already accepted this through my time on bedrest.  Just wanted to know how my cleaning routine may change.  Kinda random but I love a neat house!

  • Thanks for answering. I love the favourite ones!!!! Aaaaaaw and I can understand the least favourite things/

Have a good day with your beautiful daughter.?

  • I've been able to maintain some normalcy in my cleaning routine. My bathroom is still disinfected as much as it was.?

Babies also like the sound of the vacuum. So I'm able to vacuum. I wait until she goes down for a nap to really clean everything, EVEN SCRUB MY FLOORS!!! I do 1 load of laundry a day if needed. Sometimes I just do 1-2 every couple of days. I also delegate to dh. If I need him to do something in order for me to be able to relax (i can't relax unless the house is clean), then he does it. He didn't always, but I had to talk to him and explained that when I needed help, he needed to step up to the plate or everyone in the house would be miserable.?
    ?
So his jobs are dishes, garbage, kitty litter & scrubbing the bathtub (everyday). No questions asked. And now he'll do anything I need him to do when asked. Like hanging the laundry on the line to dry or vacuuming.
  • I am a neat freak Mommy too! Don't mean to butt in but I can answer this question too. The first week was hard. MIL was here and she was very helpful and wanted to do everything for me but I like things my own way, you know? After she left I felt like I could "have my house back." Now I have no problem keeping things clean. I strap little Avery into my ergo carrier and clean away. She loves it! Things aren't quite as neat as they were before she came but I had WAAAYYYY too much time on my hands at the very end of my pregnancy. I don't think things will ever be THAT clean again! Also she comes with so much STUFF, I a constantly picking things up and putting them back where they go -- but I don't mind!
  • Amen abj. I never thought about the stuff meredith would come with. There is always a stray burp cloth somewhere. LOL Or clothes that need to be put away.?
  • How is the bouncy seat/swing combo working out for you?  I've heard some mixed reviews...

How are the dogs doing with the baby?  I'm a little concerned as mine can be quite vocal when people get into their "space"  and I don't want them waking the baby up.

When were you able to shower after delivery?

  • I also want to know about the dogs and the baby. I'm not sure if mine will feel left out or if they'll love it.

Also, when breastfeeding, what do you do to soothe your nipples or keep them from drying out/cracking? I've registered for soothing pads and cream but didn't know if these are worth it.

  • We love it! We took the tray off for now. We use the seat everywhere. She loves the swing and i love that i can adjust the recline when we're using it as a swing.

The dogs have been amazing with her. They bark as much as before, growl while playing at each other, wrestle next to her crib while she's sleeping, etc. She never wakes up. My suggestion would be just to allow it. You'll probably wake him up more by yelling at the dogs. We were also told that baby is used to the sounds he heard while in the belly and will recognize them as normal. So far for us that has held true.

  • my dogs have definitely felt out of the loop[, but they're adjusting fine. And we don't ignore them. Especially when people come. We make everyone pet them as they normally would so they don't associate this new "thing" with less love from people. The way i see it is that meredith is around their germs anyway. so no need to go nuts with that. We don't let them lick her face or hands though.

in the beginning i used lanisoh after every nursing. it really helped. my nips were still really sore, but we are doing well now. IMO even when the latch is fine , like ours was, your nips are still gonna be sore. They're just not used to bfing. I also let them air dry, which helped a lot. I didn't let her use them as a paci eithe. At 3am one night i sent dh to the 24hr rite aid to one & she never got confused.

    Can I jump in here?

I am living on Lasinoh Lanolin cream - it's so nice.  And make sure you wear a supportive bra.  Another hint - do not clean off your nipples.  the Lanolin is safe for baby and the more you wipe/clean them, the sorer/drier they will get.

BFing still hurts like a SOB though - and we even got an "A+" on the latch test.

  • I showered the next day in the hosp. It wasn't to bad, but i was very careful around my stitches in the hoo-ha. That i kind of just let the water run on it. When i got home, the shower massage was my friend. just because i could take it off & really let it "rain", on soft spray, on my hoo-ha. I was sore, but it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be.
  • Thanks ladies!

  • Definitely the lanisoh.  And not letting baby use you as a paci.  Break the latch with your finger and give a paci!!

And Kellen doesn't wake to much.  When he's asleep, he's asleep!
