Food Allergy

Allergy tests today...stressed about results!

So DS had more allergy tests done today cause he has had ongoing issues with bloating, tummy pain, BAD diarrhea & multiple episodes of severe hives. His test 6 months ago showed allergies to dairy, eggs & oats & he had a blood test that indicated gluten allergy. Today's tests showed allergies to wheat (just to confirm the blood work from earlier) almonds, sesame & beef. Anyone have any experience with Beef allergy? Our ped allergist said his allergy was significant & that some kids with dairy allergies also have an allergy to beef...I guess it shouldn't be that hard to avoid but we do tend to give him quite a bit because a) he'll actually eat it fairly consistently & b) he NEEDS the fat! Does anyone else have a kiddo with a Sesame allergy as well? Is Sesame hidden in very many foods? I know it can be in some cosmetics so I'll go thru mine tonight & see. I guess I knew he'd have more positives but now I am just feeling overwhelmed & angry that yet another food that he likes will be taken away! Ok, vent over, any suggestions that you gals have will be greatly appreciated!

Re: Allergy tests today...stressed about results!

  • that is a lengthy list. i'm sorry you're dealing with that.

You can probably give him ground up turkey meat or chicken meat if he liked the consistency..

Also, my son had a sesame allergy when first diagnosed and grew out of it this year but we still avoid.  It's also called Tahini and it's in many asian foods and most hummus (you can buy tahini free hummus though).  Lipstick also has it but i usually don't wear lipstick - i just didn't (and still don't) allow anyone to kiss him on the face.. you need to do that especially with a sesame allergy.  Not only those that have lipstick but everyone b/c it's easier to tell everyone "no kisses on face" than saying if you're wearing lipstick no kissing.

I would give him avocados.. that's good fat and you can mix it w/ tomato, onion, salt and lime juice and make guacamole.

Good luck and i hope he grows out of some (or better yet, all).
