1st Trimester

A little nervous...anyone experiencing these symptoms?

I am about 4.5-5 weeks pregnant and my u/s isn't for another 3 weeks...I've noticed some uterine cramping (like before a period would start)...it isn't severe, but I don't think I'd say its mild either.  It isn't constant...kinda intermittent, and tends to happen when I get up or sit down, or urinate. I haven't had any bleeding...but once or twice I have had a light pinkish or beigeish discharge when I wipe (sorry TMI, lol!)

Is this normal? I'm so scared this means I'm going to miscarry...has anyone else had these symptoms?

Re: A little nervous...anyone experiencing these symptoms?

  • Early in my pregnancy I had cramping in a very centralized location, and it was somewhere between noticeable and cause for worry... My Dr. said that its common, maybe where the baby implants. If your worried a call to your Dr. won't hurt, especially if it will take the worry away.

  • I'd call the doctor just to be sure, usually they can recommend you for some bloodwork to test your HCG levels to help determine if everything is ok.

  • I am having the same cramping, but i do not have a discharge. I am also 4.5-5 weeks also.. Not sure if its normal or not?
  • I was cramping something horrible. The doctor said it was just where the baby was planting itself. He said only time you need to worry is when there is blood.
  • I'm 5 w 1d today and I actually called the RE's emergency # b/c I was having moderate cramping and lower back pressure/pain.  They advised me to take Tylenol, take it easy tonight and drink lots of water.  Gladly, the symptoms went away, but you aren't alone!
  • I had this at 5 weeks and was so worried.  I called my doctor and they had me come in for an u/s.  I had one at 5 weeks 3 days and was able to see that everything was progressing just fine and it made me feel SO much better!  My doctor said the cramps were completely normal.

  • I've had a light brown discharge off and on this week, just occasionally when wiping.  At first I was concerned because I don't remember that with my other 2 pregnancies.  But it hasn't gotten darker or heavier, so I think it's fine.  If it was to increase I would call the doctor.

I had the exact same symptoms. You're fine. Tell your OB though. The cramping sounds like ligaments to me because it's occurring when you get up or down. The spotting can happen throughout your pregnancy - just let your doctor know and be the one to decide if it's something to worry about or not.

  • I took my first pregnancy test before my period. It was positive, but I cramped for a week or two after just like period cramps. I thought I would start my period at any second and lose the baby, but the Dr. said it was normal to have cramping like that. I didn't have any spotting, but I have also been told that a little spotting can be normal. You can always call your Dr. to make sure and get the stress out of your mind!

  • I didn't POAS until my period was over a week late cause I was having cramping like I was just about to get my period.  Eventually it stopped, around 6 weeks or so, only to start up again at 10 weeks give or take.  Now I get sharp cramps if I move wrong or stretch too much. I just had an U/S two days ago and all is well with the baby.  There is a lot of moving and stretching going on, so some discomfort is normal.  Also, a little implantation bleeding around 4-4.5 weeks can be normal.

Take it easy and be sure to drink lots of water, but unless you see bright red blood, I really wouldn't worry about it.  If you need the reassurance, though, call your doc.  That's why you pay him the big bucks!

  • I've cramped since day 1!!! Only in this last week have I had some relief. So, that's definitely normal. So is spotting. If the cramping gets more and more intense and is more constant, and you can fill a pad in an hour, that's the time to worry. Always okay to schedule an appointment - get your HCG levels drawn, etc - if you're feeling concerned, though. You should be do for an US appointment soon, though, or could ask for one - 7 weeks is a good time to aim for, though.
  • Yup...Your uterus is getting ready to get BIG!!!  Remember, it's gonna go from the size of a plum to the size of a watermelon, and it's a muscle, so the stretching won't always be pleasant.  Try to relax.  Most OBs want you to call when you get strong cramps and spotting/blood.  Just make sure to tell your OB at your next appt.  They like to keep track of your symptoms.

  • Totally normal. As the baby is getting bigger, your ute is stretching and growing, so its going to cramp up. Just think of it as growing pains :) If it gets severe or is accompanied by heavy red blood spotting then I would def call your doc pronto

  • Thank you for asking this question. I am 5w5d and I too have had cramping this past week, not mild but not severe either, and off and on. When I went for my 2nd BETA on Wednesday, I asked and she said it was completely normal, that most feel as if they are getting their period. I bought some Tylenol and have only had to take it once. It's definetly enough to make me nervous, but after asking my Dr and reading so much on multiple boards, it is very, very common. Just the uterus growing :) for our precious little one!

I've had cramping since before I got my bfp. I thought I was going to get AF and that is still what it feels like when I get them. They have diminished a lot though. I used to get 3 or 4 a day now I may get one period like cramp every other day that lasts about a minute. I was told it is normal, it is just your uterus expanding for the baby.?
